I hope this is in the right place. I appologize if it's not. :)
My DF wants to go back to college after he's out of the military. Do any of you know if the military will pay him to go to school? I know they will pay for him to go to school for credits and such, but will any of that money go to him for his own personal use? I have been wanting to know this for awhile now and its driving me crazy because no one seems to know! and I have a good feeling someone on here will know.
p.s. I dont know if the branch matters, but he's Navy. Thanks girls!!!

Does he have the GI Bill? If so, he will get the GI Bill and it is a check each month (direct deposit I believe) and he can use it for tuition, room and board, etc. It isn't enough to support him though....If he is active duty right now, it is a good time for him to start taking classes under Tuition Assistance. He needs to go talk to the College office on his base and they will break it all down for him.

How much time does he have left in? They CAN use their GI Bill while they are in, but they get less money each month for it than they do when they are in.
Did he pay into his GI Bill at all?
If he has one year or more left of his enlistment, he can use Tuition Assistance, and the Navy pays for school, and it doesn't use any of his GI Bill. There are max amounts they can use per semester/quarter and per year though.

DH has been working slowly on his AA the last few years by using his Tuition Assistance. I *think* they get $2500 a year (or maybe a semester?), that covers his classes and he pays for his books. He's ANG though, it may be different for the Navy.
If he can go now, he should do it, even a couple classes is a couple he doesn't have to take later. There's lots of online options for schooling too. Good luck!

When hubby got out he went to university...
He used his GI Bill (36 months is all you can get). He paid more into it so after books and tuition we got $1000 per month for stipend. He also did a Vet Work Study, and got paid about $700 per month. On top of that he stayed in the Reserves, so that was a bit more money, plus he was able to go on the Reserve GI bill after his othe GI bill ran out. We still had student loans, but we had three kids while trying to do this.
Good luck.
