My SO is a lifer and we have talked about him switching from enlisted to officer, he says he will actually make less money then he does now for at least 8 yrs. He is an E-7, and will have to wait two more yrs to reach E-8, but has already been recommended of the promotion. (army national guard) My question is does anyone else have any advice or experience with this? Which is a better career choice. He tends to get promoted as quickly as he is eligible, and i am wondering if it is worth it to switch now?

Is he staying guard? If so I would just stay as is. If he's going active I would think about switching, but I can't imagine that he would get paid less if he's still getting paid for the years in... I would look at the pay charts and weigh the pros and cons to both.

He's active guard so it is his full time career. He's meeting with the career counselor tomorrow, so i'll see if they have any valuable advice. thanks
