My Db is having his pre-op exam on friday for lazer eye surgery... We've discussed it several times and my main ? is how long the army will give him leave for when he has the surgery and is recovering. also if he'll be able to come home?:thinking:getit:please help?

Which surgery? If you mean a sight correction surgery, most of those are outpatient, and he could return to work that day. Is he at school?

My mom had lasik corrective surgery done, the procedure was 30 minutes. She could see immediately and felt 100% healed in 24 hours.

He's so lucky!!!! How much of it does Tri cover?

I didn't know TriCare covered this. Will have to look into it. I ***HIGHLY*** recommend 1 eye at a time. God for bid, the doctor goof. At least your only blind in 1 eye instead of 2. Doctors are still human and can error/make mistakes. I'd go twice if I were getting this done.

That's cool that someone posted their mom could see right after that and was healed within a day. The marvals of technological medicine.

What bf is tellin me is that as along as he's approved the army pays for it completely... Also that it's not immediate correction they have to do both eyes...and usually takes two weeks to heal

My dad did both eyes at the same time, and now he just wears reading glasses. He loves it. DB and I both want to get it done. And we will, eventually.

DH was trying to get it done, but now he's deploying soon, so he's not able to get on the list. So he'll go back once he gets back....he really hates glasses and is about blind as a bat. Tricare will be covering it all.

My husband had his done last month, and the navy let him have four days off from work, even though he was fine the next day.

They paid for it completely, but he was on the waiting list for about 2 or 3 years. Best decision he's made.

I'm pretty sure that the procedure that military personnel has to get is different than the typical lasik surgery. The procedure that the military requires is more stable for people with active lifestyles but has a longer recovery time. It should produce just as great a result. DB is thinking about getting it done when he gets home.

It actually depends on your job in the military. My DH thought he was going to have to get the PRK procedure, but they went ahead and approved him for lasik.

The MC has offered to pay for my DF to get both of his eyes done. All he has to do is get off his lazy butt and get his exam.

My husband is having PRK surgery done on the 7th of this month. He's getting until the 14th off basically because he has post op appointments on the 8th, 11th and 14th.

It all depends I'm sure but if he has post op appointments I doubt he'd get to come home because he'd have to make it to those.

Dh had his done about2 years ago and it was great. He had 5 days off work. He had PRK instead of the lazer. Based on how DH was after his surgery, I would not think that your BF would be able to travel. Dh slept sooo much after his surgery. PM me if you have any other questions

I want this done so so bad. Does anybody know how much it is in the civilian world? I am blind as a bat, for sure.
