They are talking about autism all day today! Insurance debates, stories of children, interventions, all kinds of good stuff! (L)

I have noticed before that CNN has been reporting about it more and more over the past few months.

Also lots of things on their website http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2008/news/autism/

The very first, although the reason for it is sad I am glad it is getting more attention. The more people can become aware that autism is not always the extreme view that has most often been shown by the media the better it is for those living with it everyday.

I agree. I just caught a segment on Good Morning America about the growing number of kids with autism who are now attending college and how colleges are having to design programs and such to help them out.

I had NEVER even thought about that. I had never thought that Sean might not be able to handle college.....I just figured when the time came we'd figure out the best way for him to get through college.

So many things come up that you just don't think about......

A LOT has changed for the better not just for Autism but for all DD's and LD's. I know when I graduated in 1996 I had a guidance counselor tell me they could not help me figure out which ACT or SAT to take because most kids with LD's did not go to college. NOW they have a student with disabilities info night at my college campus to help families get their children prepared for college. I LOVE it.

I don't even THINK about college yet for Jacob I just think about getting through the week. All I can focus on now is learning how to communicate with him. I was speaking with his ST this morning and she said his way of coping in uncomfortable settings is really good. YES he withdraws and puts his back to the kids (sitting in a circle Jacob will turn around so his back is to everyone) but he is still a part of the circle and he is not acting out violently. before he would not only turn his back to the kids but he would sit just outside of the circle baby steps KWIM?

It is hard for me to talk about him with other parents because I have heard some pretty ignorant things like my little sister telling me if I just turned his car seat around and stopped breast feeding him he would be fine.
