Subject line says it all. It's my fault that I am in this mess. Now I'm looking for a way out that doesn't involve withdrawing. Fortunately one of my professor's emailed me a few days ago asking me if everything was ok, and offering to give credit if I makeup the assignments I missed. Now I just have to deal with my other two professors. How am I ever going to negotiate my way out of this?? :no :tears

hey julianne,

how come you missed a month of college??? have you been suffering because you s/o is deployed??

could you explain to your profs youve been having a hard time with it, and see if they'll let you make up the work???
I hope you get it sorted.

I think you be honest and tell them you have been having a rough time with out your man. If one professor is willing, maybe the other two will be as well. You will have to committ though and get those assignments done!
Good luck and keep us posted!

i LITERALLY just went through this. i posted about it last week. just go in IN PERSON and explain to them what is going on. most professor's are very understanding that LIFE happens and sometimes things get in the way. :goodluck sweetie.

Yea I have been really depressed and it's really affecting my life... not only academically but socially too, and with work. It's not just about deployment but other things w/ my family, caring for my grandma, etc. I have just felt like everything is so out of control, I've lost track of everything including school. Now I'm 5 weeks from the end of the semester and realizing how screwed I am. I hope I can work something out with these teachers. :xfingers

My classes are online. But I know what you mean about the in person thing... I would've lost my job last week had I not found the guts to talk to my boss face to face.

I think it's important to remember that professors are human beings too! They go through hard times! And everyone is right, they will more than likely understand. I think having the guts to talk to your boss is waaay scarier than talking to a professor. Just email them and explain you would like to discuss a way to make up the missed work and offer to meet in person, talk on the phone, etc. They will tell you how they would like to figure it all out. :) Good luck hun!

:hug I'm sorry Julianne! I agree with the other posters about trying to explain to your profs. And I'm sorry you've been stressed. If you ever need an evening away from everything, my house is currently very quiet and peaceful and my door is always open - I'd be more than happy to drink a bottle of wine and relax with you!

I agree with the other folks; try talking to your other professors. I was in a similar situation with my job because my depression had gotten really bad and was sure I'd be fired, but when I talked to my boss they made allowances and kept me on. I hope your other professors understand and make allowances for the difficult time you've been having...and I hope it gets easier :hugs

Hopefully they are understanding!! Luckily my TA's first semester were really great when DB was deployed. My history prof. this semester & my calc prof. were both really understanding when I missed 2 days of class because DB was coming home.

GOODLUCK! If you have any papers, I'll peer-edit them for you :D

My advice talk to them.....face to face if possible. If not see if you can call them to talk to them. It would be more personal and they are probably more liable to be lenient.

apologize, explain yourself, don't give excuses, and be understanding if they can't be flexible.......

good luck!!

I know how you feel, I take classes online too and its a little difficult to get a face to face talk with them. Try reaching them on the phone. That seems to work for me. You can explain your situation and ask for some type of extension. I'm sure they would understand! Good luck hun!!!!!!!!

:shrug not sure about the online thing since those have pretty stringent attendence policies due to the nature of the "classroom" but i wanted to wish you luck!! :hugs
