View Full Version : anthrax vaccine
Dr. K 04-18-2008, 07:49 PM so my fiance got his anthrax vaccine 3 days ago. anyone's so had problems from the shot??? i thought a few years ago people were suing the military for making them get the shots that ended up making them sick and whatnot. i'm kinda concerned that he had to get it. opinions or experiences please?!
Donna 04-18-2008, 07:55 PM DH didnt have any problems with the anthrax vax. He had to wait though till he got to the ship (already deployed) to get his shots because Gabe was just over a year old at the time.
But no issues then or now.
ETA, 2 kids afterwards too.

Becca 04-18-2008, 07:59 PM DH and I have both had the vaccine with no ill effects. I got mine 10 years ago and have since given birth to two beautiful and healthy children.
rosebud* 04-18-2008, 08:03 PM dh has had it, no issues here.
:edit 2 kids conceived after he got it and they are healthy as well. :D
TallBlondie82 04-18-2008, 09:32 PM db has had the shots 3 times now...they make him sick and he usually has a fever for about 3 days...
bethanybabe 04-18-2008, 09:36 PM Db had a little trouble with the second shot more than the others he got a fever. He actually had more trouble with the small pox shot. I never thought about the effects on future children :dunno
gottli10 04-18-2008, 09:44 PM DH just had his 2nd round of the anthrax vaccine. I was VERY worried from everything i've heard, and he's been just fine. He hasn't had any side effects and I'm breathing a sigh of relief. He also had his smallpox vaccine and is fine. HTH!
360Sweetie 04-18-2008, 10:47 PM My guy had the shot and had no side effects.
usafwifecraven 04-18-2008, 10:51 PM DH actually just got his about a week or so ago...and he was running a fever and feeling really cruddy for a day or so after. It has gone away now. Just sore in the shot area that's all.
DB's going through the round of them right now. It makes me very nervous, but he seems to be doing fine. :xfingers
PM me if you wanna talk about it. I'm pretty interested in vaccines and diseases/bacteria/etc..... so we could talk a bit. I'm not an expert by any means, but I have come across it a few times in readings, so we could probably discuss it if you're worried.
Britt 04-19-2008, 02:16 AM My husband had a total of 6 anthrax shots while he was enlisted. He reacted a little more strongly each shot. The last shot was the worst. His entire upper bicep turned bright red, puffy and was scorching hot to the touch. The redness even creeped over and went over his left pectoral muscle.
Reactions are very common and very annoying.
Jesseeyka 04-19-2008, 02:22 AM dh had his third of the series of 6 a few weeks ago. The first two didn't bother him too much, just a little sore. The third one he said swelled up really bad for several days and was worrying him there for a while. It went down after 3 or 4 days, and he's fine now.
Proud_MPWIFE 04-19-2008, 11:17 PM DH had them back when he was active duty (10 years ago) and he's had several problems since then. Once he went reserves, he refused them, and once he deployed, they said he couldnt get them due to "prexisting conditions" due to prior problems.
Same goes for small pox, he didnt recieve them due to skin conditions ( caused by anthrax shots)
I was quite surprised how the army doctors handled it this time around.
Cobysmom75 04-19-2008, 11:23 PM I would NEVER EVER get thats hot! There have been so many problems associated with it.
Dr. K 04-20-2008, 08:14 AM I'm more concerned about the long term effects of the shot rather than the swollen arm or that it hurts to touch 2-3 days after the shot. I just feel like they don't know enough about it's long term effects on the body.
foxytango 04-23-2008, 01:10 AM my DB didn't have any problems, he did however feel a little sick after his small pox. man, that was nasty. lol. DB just said the anthrax made his arm feel like it got punched and it was sore.
leanne 04-23-2008, 01:31 AM the long term effects for this shot do not just show up in most cases. for some the side effects are gradual, in fact not noticable until it is out of control. i do not trust the shot. i have seen way to many problems with my husband having the shot and a few of our friends since they had the shot as well. i don't know maybe i am biased because of what we have gone through because of that stupid shot.
Proud_MPWIFE 04-23-2008, 10:00 AM Forgot to add, during DH cycle of shots, I got pregnate with my DD and she is now 8 yrs old and is presenting all the same issues as DH:dunno
