View Full Version : Yay, Ft. Lewis
Mrs. LA 04-21-2008, 07:30 PM It's offical, I just got off the phone with my new landcouple lol.
We are official, we will be moving to Clearwood Community in June.
the couple renting to us is awsome, also Army :cp
I guess things are looking better, know all we have to do is set up or DITY move.
Any suggestions! My DH is E1 and this is our First PCS. Thanks!
canadiangirl 04-21-2008, 07:59 PM Hi there...My DH and I are also posted to Ft Lewis. Just a heads up gas is very expensive out here so you will want the military to move you. Not sure what you will be renting but if you want a house on post and because its your first PCS you do get preference and you do not have to go on the waiting list. Its much cheaper to live on post as well the kids would each get their own room. Housing pays water, sewer, garbage, gas and electric whereas in town its out of pocket. And usually deposits with those. My DH (E3) and I live off post in a 1 bedroom but with no children and our rent is $1000.00 plus all utilities. We have to actually pay some expenses out of pocket as our BAH doesn't not cover it all.
My best friend lives on post now because they could not afford to live off post as her DH was an E4 at the time.
If you need any help at all about Ft Lewis or anything else feel free to PM me and welcome to Ft Lewis.
Robyn
canadiangirl 04-21-2008, 08:07 PM Also not sure where Clearwood Community is, thinking it's in Yelm, it may be a commute to the base everyday especially in rush hour. If you are still wanting to live off post you may want to look into the Lacey area. Thats where I live and its about a 10min drive to the base. Or theres the Lakewood area which is about a 15mins or so drive.
BubMunkeyBles 04-21-2008, 10:28 PM I have no clue... But congrats!!
Mrs. LA 04-21-2008, 10:44 PM Thanks, the fam. who is renting to us, he is a NCO or something (need to learn ranks), he said commute will be about 1/2 hour with the shortcut or else and hour.
how does housing work, this house is a rent to own, if I don't have the chance to buy it after a year we are going for housing on post. We are gonna pay 1300 and utilities, it's 15min south of Yelm. And was told the community has three lakes, 1 for swiming and others for boating and extras. My dh used to be a wildland firefigther and Arborist, so he needs to live in the woods! lol. Thanks for the heads up we were planing the DITY, we are coming from So California.
canadiangirl 04-22-2008, 04:14 AM I'm just heading to bed now but I'll PM you tomorrow and get all the info you need from my friend whos lives on post.
By the way I'm Robyn. Nice to meet you.

canadiangirl 04-22-2008, 04:58 PM Hey Dianna...just sent you a PM with some info. Let me know if you have any questions. Talk to you soon.
canadiangirl 04-22-2008, 11:05 PM Not sure if you got my last PM. Computer froze just as I hit sent, but yes you are allowed 2 pets. Alot of families here have dogs and big ones as well. And depending on the housing and the yard you may be approved to put up a fence or it may have one there already.
Talk to you soon...

Mrs. LA 04-23-2008, 01:54 AM Thanks Robin, I did receive it thank you. I need to talk to DH, he thinks I will get in a fight with everyone there. I think I am bipolar or something. Anywho, thank you. Maybe we can meet in person I really need to learn the strings.
canadiangirl 04-23-2008, 04:10 AM too funny...I want to move on base myself soon, especially when DH deploys. It'll be alot easier on myself as my friend is there and I don't have to worry about any commute. Basically for the support you know. I sometimes have to bite my tongue on certain things myself. Or I'd go crazy LOL. But for sure, keep in touch and when you get here lets meet up. Theres a Starbucks on base. I'm learning all the ins and outs of the military as well. It's very structured and diciplined. Its alot different then our military in Canada where I'm from. And especially being a military wife. I'm still learning all about that too....Heres my email address just incase.

360Sweetie 04-23-2008, 06:11 AM I have only heard all good things about living in the Yelm area.I know there is a back gate to get on post from there.I live in lacey and love it here mostly because I grew up in this area. The waitlist for onpost housing is a long time. I know people that got on the list last summer who are just now getting a house.
Mrs. LA 04-23-2008, 11:29 AM My plan was to live off post with DH, be on waiting list for housing, if we can purchase the home we are in great, but if not I will go live on-post.

chely7425 06-26-2008, 08:59 PM Is it true that for your first PCS you get preference for on base housing?
Purpur 06-26-2008, 10:53 PM I've never heard it before Rach....but *shrugs* who knows?
Actually, I really doubt thats true. This is our first PCS and we're on the wait list.
MomWifeMe 06-26-2008, 10:59 PM Is it true that for your first PCS you get preference for on base housing?
I dont think so because I just called housing and they said that we are going to be on the waiting list for 2 - 3 months. The lady at housing said its based on size of family and rank.
chely7425 06-26-2008, 11:46 PM Hmmm... luckily the base I think we are getting sent to doesn't have a wait list right now :D
