We lived in Spring Valley near the school and it was really nice. I know Lemon Grove didn't seem like the best area. Not sure exactly where that is at.

not bad, it's north east of where our house is.

It's pretty good. My old boss lived over there and loved it.

Really? Well, that is good to know. I"m wishing that we were a little closer to our projected move date b/c I found a house that seems perfect and I am kind of in shock that it's actually a 5 bedroom b/c I haven't been able to find ANY decent five bedrooms within our price range. It needs a little bit of work, mostly new carpet and probably new paint, but there is a backyard, five bedrooms, the house is in good shape on the outside.... I just know it won't still be available closer to our move date. We're not supposed to move until November and even if I moved right after we have the baby in August, that's still a few months away so it'd be pointless to put in any kind of offer right now.

Damn. :sigh Maybe it's a sign that we'll find something better though, who knows. :sigh

:giggle you are doing what I am doing. I have found some homes that I am madly in love with but we just can't buy it right now. I wish it was next year already so I could pack us up and move.

Its pretty much torture isn't it? :arg I've only found two that I'm completely in love with. The rest are either in crappy areas, falling apart or only 3 bedrooms. It sucks to find what you think is the perfect one though, and know you can't do a darn thing about it :lol Torture!

:yes That's what I read too! I've been doing a lot of research because my dad just bought a home down here... hopefully we might be looking again too once this lease is up!! :five

I know, let's buy a triplex together, live on each side and flip one side at a time! Then we can babysit for eachother, grill together, and borrow eggs from eachother. :mrgreen

How long will you guys be down here once the ship gets here?

You'd need to do a drive-by of the exact location! My parents moved us out of 92114 back in 1991!

That is the best idea I"ve ever heard :lmao

He'll be attached to his current ship for three years after we get there. Then we're hoping to extend there for shore (which is also three years) since we really will not have too many options for moving due to family size (can't go back to the east coast unless we do great lakes first, and they won't move us overseas at all :whatever ) then he will retire just a couple years into his next sea so we're thinking of just finishing out his career there, especially if we find a nice house.

We're just going to keep searching and as soon as we have a final date for moving, we'll start seriously looking and possibly making an offer on something if we can find something that we like.

With the way the housing situation is out there right now (with the military housing) and expensive as apartments are (which don't even allow pets and don't have more than 3 bedrooms), I figure it'd be pretty stupid to not buy if we're going to be there for at least 3 years, possibly up to 10 years. I keep thinking about how we will be throwing away almost $25,000 per year if we move into housing... Lincoln will get 25K PER YEAR from us... multiply that times at least 3... that's $75K that we could very well be using to build a little equity. Even if the housing market is still shitty 5 years from now, I don't think we'd LOSE money, but at least we'd have the possibility of some gain.

We shall see. I have hopes that we'll find something but it's hard to tell when you're talking about buying in one of the most expensive places in the united states :nutts I know that whatever we buy will probably need some work.

I KNOW!!! I found 5 acres of land for only 92K in Coos Bay and the price of buying a modular and putting it on foundation wouldn't be much so as to not go over our $175K limit. :sigh but it's just not reasonable for the whole family to live for 15 months up there while he is down here. I won't do it unless he was deployed.

I'm not sure about the schools in that area. Try looking up the mls # on here: http://www.sdlookup.com/ and on that page you'll get the school information (for the nearest schools). Once you get the name of the nearest schools, look them up on here: http://www.greatschools.net/. For me, the schools are one of the most important things about where we move to. (You can also get a general idea of the schools in the area by this map: http://schoolperformancemaps.com/ca/#32.955673%2C-117.200775%2C11%2C1).

I wish foreclosed houses were like 10 dollars. Then I'd be less apprehensive to buy a house at some point in my life.
