Well we haven't got the "official" orders (His commander has been swamped with work this week) so I don't know what unit or anything BUT...... It was posted on his AKO account that we are headed to Fort Bliss, Tx. Any body there already or have any info??

:wavey I'm from there. It's big, but behind the times about 10 years. Lots of spanish speaking communities. The base is rather large and the comm and PX are great. ( very large) COL is low, but finding a good paying job is hard. housing is meh ok and its hot there and dusty.

Yay, congrats. So are you thinking of DITY move or have military move you? On Post or Off Post living?

From what I know you need to be there with a Special POA to get on the list for onpost housing and they do not move your POV

I don't know about "YAY", from what I've been reading on other threads, :lol, it sounds horrible :eek But I'm at least excited I'm not in the dark anymore and at least it is still state side.
We were thinking of living on post but IDK after reading the other post it sounds scary with mold and etc. I do have to consider I have 3 kids under 3 yrs and my newborn is considered medically fragile.
I'm not good at shorthand yet so I'm assuming DITY is "do it yourself" I would rather have them move us but we've got to check into all that. I am so overwelmed with what I need to research right now its crazy!!!!

what do you mean by special POA for onpost housing? Again i am completely illiterate when it comes to all the procedures, etc. Who knew Army lingo could be so hard to learn, lol.

I know the food pay is to feed the soldier, IDK if it includes family, but I might be wrong. You can go with a POA (specailly for that and request housing)

BAH is housing allowance
BAS is food allowance
DITY is do it yourself move.
TMO is a move done by the military
I would have the military move you, trust me with young kids it is so much less hassle.

BAS is technically for the solider it covers what they would use if they were eating at the galley.

Okay so I checked out the websites, thank you so much by the way, and there is only one neighborhood on base that we qualify for (E-1) and there aren't that many house's with 3 or 4 bedrooms how do I go ahead and reserve one or can I? He's already told me about half the guys in his class are being sent there and I'm sure they won't last long. And the off-post housing is sooo expensive I didn't find anything any cheaper than 750.00, and thats 30 minutes away.
