So, I know that having trouble sleeping while he's deployed is common. I am terrible at sleeping anyway though, I've had problems with insomnia for years... it comes and goes, and is worst when I am stressed out.
I realized recently that I've had a lot of trouble sleeping, and it has only been since he has been underway the majority of the last 6 weeks. Just this morning I realized that I have slept really well the last few nights... and then I realized the last few nights he has been in port and I've been able to talk to him.
:sigh I think I'm just a little freaked out right now that I am going to go 6 months running on very, very little sleep. I also really don't like the feeling that my sleep is dependent on him... scary.
Any thoughts? Advice? Reassurance? Thanks, ladies.

I go through fazes of insomnia to...........a week ago I hadn't slept properly for at least 2 weeks and this week I am doing a lot better. I don't know why it happens though, my DB is away also, not sure if it has to do with him being away or not. I know when I worry about stuff it always happens. I would think that you are anxious right now and thats what caused the insomnia and when he was in port you feel more relaxed. I am the opposite I am more relaxed when he is on the ship than in port lol. Maybe try some over the counter meds to get some sleep after he leaves port.

Could you try benadryl for a few nights to get you into a routine?

oooo i hate insomnia! i have been dealing with it since i was a little kid. you do get alot done at night but i rather rest. I have to take ambien 10mg or 6mg with ambien CR. the OTC meds do not work for me at all...just like popping tic tacs.

I have been dealing with insomnia since I was fairly young.........I think I was around nine or ten when I first realized it. I was always the last to fall asleep at slumber parties..... I am thinking of getting some sleeping pills from the doc as I am tired (haha) of dealing with it all.

Maybe see about talking to a doctor and taking something to help you fall asleep? I've never had problems with insomnia but when dh is not here, I do not go to bed until very late and I don't sleep well. It makes for a very long deployment, especially with a little one, but no matter what I try, my sleep is not good. I hope you find something that works for you.

My insomnia has been coming in waves. I found that medication only made it worse for me. It has been more helpful to do something relaxing before bed, I do sudoku, and try to keep a schedule. It got better about 2 months after DH deployed, I spent the first couple months in a sleepless fog, and there have only been a few sleepless nights since then.

I had sleep problems through our last deployment and even after he got home. I finally went to the dr and he gave me an Rx for ambien. It worked and within a couple weeks I was able to fall asleep on my own and stay asleep.

I am sorry you are not sleeping. I don't suffer from insomnia, i have terrible nightmares. They usually come in waves, typically after a long period of not hearing from DB. I find that when I work out hard at the gym, I sleep better. Maybe you could try working out at night and see if that helps, it usually helps me work off anxiety....sometime I even cry at the gym, thank goodness for carido cinema rooms where it is dark.

All I know is that pets can do wonders. I always sleep better at night with a purring kitten by my side. If you're allergic or can't have pets, stuffed animals also can help relieve anxiety in many individuals (as stupid as it may sound at first!).
