DF took his phone (unlocked) with him and he has a slot for a SIM card.
We are looking at getting him a prepaid card from over there so he can use it every now and then.
Any hlepful ideas about what company is the best?
Thanks!

I know that my DB told me that they aren't supposed to have cell phones so there aren't really any "companies" to go through. If they were to have one they buy a prepaid minutes card from the "locals"...not sure if any of this is specific only to his base or his unit though. I don't really ask many questions in regards to rules. :P

When DH was deployed to Baghdad in '06 he had a cell phone. I think he just bought it from like a street vendor or something. Idk that much about it.

I was just talking to a friend the other day about that and she said when they're in Iraq (he's MC) they are not allowed to have cell phones because they can be traced to find out where exactly they are...no clue if it's different for army but I'd be checking...she said one of the guys in their unit got sent home and to the brig for the rest of deployment because he got caught with it.

Thanks ladies!
I did some research and I looked at that website already so I guess now we will just have to wait until he leaves Kuwait to see what their command says about cell phones and what the best option is.

Thank so much!

it must be different for every unit, because my DH was in bagdhad and is MC, and he has a cell phone and everyone openly uses theirs.

mine got his from off the street from the bazaar as well.

it's nice when they have them because as long as it is on, and they are in good reception, you can call them from your phone using a calling card
