When I first got them SO tiny and SO cute the lighter colored one is mater he died shortly after we got him :( The one that's more yellow is lightening mcqueen and the one with the red ears is Sally :)

And here's what Matt and I built this weekend it's an above tank basking area it's larger the ramp we had so they have more room and so we could fill up the whole tank to maximize the swimming space for them :) We plan on adding a background, some rocks and some plants and a bottom to cover the wood :)

How cute! My Dh wants a turtle but they scare me for some reason so I won't let him get one lol.

OH. MY. GOD. I LOVE THEM!!! I want turtles even more now!!! I don't really know anything about turtles so forgive me if I sound stupid, but do they live in the water or on land or both? I knew a girl that had a HUGE turtle that just walked around her apartment all the time. :lol I think if Adam and I got turtles we would ultimately end up deciding on turtles that live in a tank like that so that my cats would leave them alone. :giggle

Thanks :) I wish they had stayed little forever :( But I :wub the little guys even tho they are getting huge. THey can get as big as dinner plates when they are full grown

You are so right about that... I live on a farm so I was always getting ones like that in the spring.. it is amazing how fast they grow... they are so sweet !

I love turtles! We found a red eared slider when I was in 6th grade, it was the size of a quarter. My parents still have it and its huge now.

Tortise's live on land turtles in water although I that isn't true for all species..kwim.
I have RES and YBS they are both aquatic turtles although they do need to come out to dry off and warm out hence the basking area. Some species need ALOT of water some don't need much It really depends on what species you are look at. If you want help looking for some and finding a reputable breeder just PM me :) DO NOT USE Turtlesale.com they often send sick and dying turtles not to mention you get a free RES with purchase so most people have no idea they are getting a free aquatic turtle along with their box turtle so they are like WTH and have no set up. Free pet with purchase is almost always a bad sign...ROFL.
The turtle your friend had was probably a alabra or a sulcata they are both very large land turtles we're talking hundreds of pounds here. I want one badly but we are not equipped to provide a proper habitat for one yet. Probably after we retire.
If you are looking at tank turts. I'd strongly reccomend a mud turtle or a eastern painted. I love my YBS and RES tho. And there are MANY in rescues just waiting for homes. Our next turtle more then likely a box turtle will come from a resuce.

ALot of people do that esp with Alabra's and Sulcata's b/c they can get so big, In the colder months you have to move them inside and when the days are hot but th enights are cold they need to be inside too. That is why we won't get one anytime soon we don't have the space and ability to properly care for one. But gosh they are just amazing! He probably takes him outside a portion of the day or has a UVB light to provide him with the Vit D he needs to proper shell growth. UGH just talking about it makes me want one..LOL

I love little turtles! DH wants one so bad, but I'm so scared of keeping it forever... what if it gets too big for me to take care of? I don't know... I want one, but am sorta afraid of it, too.
