View Full Version : Black beetle bug things?
CAmom4721 04-28-2008, 05:41 PM Does anyone else have these everywhere?! I swear, they are everywhere outside. They're not in the house because I keep all the doors and stuff where they could get in closed up, but they're big and nasty and I think they can fly. Dh said he even saw them on the flight deck of the ship today. I've never seen them before now so I am just wondering if it is normal that they're everywhere this time of year or what?
MelissaMc424 04-28-2008, 05:42 PM Yep, I've squashed several on the patio and in the garage this past weekend... I can't stand them!!
Rachael 04-28-2008, 05:42 PM ewww!!! yes we do! One flew in the house the other night and Erik had to kill it I was freaking out soo bad! :lol I know they're not poisonous or anything, but they're scary looking

The ones I've squished also smell funny when smashed....
CAmom4721 04-28-2008, 05:46 PM Eww, ok. I killed 5 in the driveway as they were trying to get in the garage and I just thought, this can't be normal. But I guess it is. Yuck. I didn't realize that they flew at first or I probably would have been a lot more cautious about walking up and swatting them. :lol
Kaymara 04-30-2008, 12:04 PM They are stink bugs/beetles and it seems they are EVERYWHERE right now. I would avoid squashing em cuz they do smell. I try to use a broom or something to push em. Tho the last 2 stood on their hind legs at me. Thats when they go to squirt you :pukey
exsNohs 04-30-2008, 01:20 PM ahhhhhhhh!!
aelsass 04-30-2008, 01:27 PM lol the story was on the news they said there are tons but they are good cause they kill the caterpillars.
CAmom4721 04-30-2008, 01:41 PM It seems like now that the weather has gotten cooler again I haven't seen them at all. And I am happy about that! :yes
wcchick712 04-30-2008, 03:13 PM in the desert we called 'em stink bugs, because they stink when you squish them.

Beetles in the genus Eleodes are known as "darkling" or "pinacate beetles," and colloquially as "stinkbugs" or "clown beetles." Eleodes, derived from the Greek term for "olivelike" describes the general body shape and jet black coloration. Darkling is a common name applied to several genera and over 1400 species within the family Tenebrionidae. Pinacate comes from the Aztec pinacatl, for "black beetle." Stinkbug refers to the malodorous secretion emitted from the insect’s rear end. Clown beetle alludes to the habit of these beetles to do a "headstand" when threatened.

wcchick712 04-30-2008, 06:38 PM they were all over the place at the tide pools we were at.
When I stepped on one, another one came to either eat it or revive it.

MIKOSWIFEY 05-02-2008, 05:56 AM When I lived in Aguanga in SoCal we used to throw those at eachother. By the time you threw it at someone, it was stinking so it didnt get you, but it got them pretty good. :rofl My bro and sis had worse aim than me so they always stunk worse. :D
LovinMySkidKid 05-06-2008, 11:01 AM Stink bugs will spray you if you're not careful. I grew up with those around and now I have to deal with them again. If you try to brush them out of the way and they don't move, they tend to freeze and shove their butt in the air-that means they're getting ready to release that odor, so just be careful with them. I don't know if they bite but I'd imagine they do.
Rileysmom 05-11-2008, 11:42 PM Do these things make a loud ass screeching buzzing noise? :freakout WTF!!!

I haven't heard any noises out of them yet, but I get them with the fly swatter as soon as I see them. It's bumming me out because Cameron just really started liking playing out in the front yard in the grass and that's where they are all hiding so I couldn't even let him play because they were crawling towards him. :(
sunshyne 05-11-2008, 11:45 PM We have been seeing them everywhere too!
