I saw this thread on military.com http://forums.military.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/790108875/m/2940088081001

So I was just wondering...even though I would be on DF's page two and he would come out of training as an E3, we'd have to pay out of pocket for me to move with him?
I think I'm just confused...but even if his perm. duty station is in Hawaii or something, just because it's his first I can't go?

What that means is that if he has dependents when he gets his orders for his first station, he SHOULD be given stateside orders for that tour, granted this is the military we're talking about. As long as you're on his Page 2 and he has you down as accompanying him on his orders (if the originals didn't have it, he'd have to have them ammended) and his orders are somewhere ACCOMPANIED where dependents can go, you'll be fine.

so Hawaii, Japan, Germany....Dependants can go there...? I know they are there, but the people replying made it seem like the Dependants weren't allowed to go even if he did get stationed there with Dependants.

as long as his orders say ACCOMPANIED, you can go where ever he is going.

yes they can, but not all orders are accompanied orders. Some are to overseas but it costs way less if they just send them unaccompanied. Yes japan hawaii, germany can be accompanied but they can also be unaccompanied. it really just depends on his orders.

My DH went to Hawaii his first term. What happened was, he got to Hawaii and had to have his command amend his orders to accompanied, and the command paid for our move and my flight, I went about a month and a half after he did. You have to be on the orders overseas, otherwise you won't be eligible for housing and the like.

Isn't he going the nuke route? If he still is the first 2 years he'll be in school here in South Carolina (and possibly New York). He wont be getting stationed anywhere else, especially not overseas until after he graduates nuke school.

right, so I was wondering...like...they would let us live together for 2 years, then suddenly make us separate because he's requesting overseas duty stations? I'm just confused. I want him to be able to request the places he wants without worrying about leaving me behind.

Oh no... That wont be a problem. With him being a nuke there isn't really anywhere overseas they'll send him that's unaccompanied. Like the others said, as long as the orders say accompanied they will move you. If you're married long before he gets orders anywhere (which I assume you will be since that more than 2 years away) there shouldn't be any reason it'll be a problem. :)

We almost got orders to Guam almost a year ago and the whole family would have been on the orders to go. They DO do overseas screaning though to make sure there isn't a reason the spouse and/or children cannot go. Now if he got the orders and then for some reason the screening said you couldn't go then his order would become unaccompanied.. but I see no reason that'd happen to you.

I also wanted to mention that as far as I know there arent billets for nukes in Germany or Japan... the only 2 places I believe they would go "overseas" would be Guam and Hawaii.

ETA: I talked to my husband to make sure I was right :lol As of right now the only 2 places overseas would be Guam and Hawaii for a nuke. There used to be billets in Italy but the tender isn't there anymore. The George Washington is supposed to be stationed in Japan so if that works out then there will be nuke billets there. GW is surface. I dont remember if your DF will be surface or sub.
