View Full Version : Cat owners! Question!
airmanssweetie 04-30-2008, 01:10 AM One of my cats (it was probbabbllyy atticus) PEED on my BED, right where i sleep. I surprised he did not get any on my pillow. I'm super mad. What do I do about this? Neither of them are sick and Atticus is still too young to be neutured right now- i think maybe next month he can be? What do I do to prevent this from happening AGAIN bc I do not want it to be on the couch or DS or my bed! Their litter box is always clean and the door was open to the bathroom where their litter boxes are! Ugh! I'm off to find sheets now :vent
RobinTellez 04-30-2008, 01:14 AM Did he pee or did he spray? If he sprayed he might just be marking that location as HIS...if that is the case, there isn't anything you can do until you get him fixed (that I know of)
andreacc 04-30-2008, 01:16 AM My cat did it because she was PISSED at me. Maybe yours was too.

How do I know if he sprayed? This was a big circle and smelled like pee? Like I said, I'm not 100% sure if it was HIM but he was the only one in the bedroom with me while I was showering and this spot wasn't dry and it wasnt on the comforter so he or she mustve gone UNDER the comforter :dunno
I'm not sure if he's pissed or what- not sure why?
Donna 04-30-2008, 02:13 AM How old is he? I know when one of our male cats was very young (under 6 months) he didnt "spray". He would just squat a pee. there isnt really anything you can do. he continued to spray after he was fixed too. getting them fixed doesnt "always" stop it.
SIMMYBABEZ 04-30-2008, 02:45 AM I have no idea! My kittens always went straight to the litter, and never strayed from it. The only time my kitten actually peed anywhere besides the litterbox, was when she had a UTI and she peed in my clean laundry. Antibiotics cleared that up and it hasn't happened since.
Hmm he peed while you were in the shower, but the litter is in the bathroom?
Perhaps the sound of the water scared him? Or it wasn't private enough for him.
Cats are funny, they like to see you, but they don't like you to see them when they are craving privacy.
MissOHara 04-30-2008, 03:45 AM Holy Crap...I would buy a new mattress...my mom would buy a new cat but she's evil.
My cat has never PEED anywhere except where he was supposed to. He had accidentally pooped in the kitchen (he had diarrhea from a rabies shot) so i put him in the spare room with his food, a bed and his box until it passed.
I agree, maybe he was mad at you. Or maybe he doesn't know what will happen if he does it so he's testing things. When Dilly-Dally was a kitten and he'd miss I'd lock him in the bathroom with the box. He's only had one.
MissOHara 04-30-2008, 03:46 AM If he's spraying (it has a distinct not pee smell) then he is DEF old enough to get neutered!
Miss B Hav'n 04-30-2008, 10:28 AM How old is he?
First thing to do is eliminate the odor so that he isn't drawn back to that spot to pee again - a vinegar/water mixture works WONDEFULLY on cat pee. It will probably take several applications throughout the day since it is a mattress . Also, toss some vinegar in the laundry when you wash those sheets. The smell level detectable to us and to them is different so you want to treat everything that may have gotten pee on it (ie the comforter, etc).
There are LOTS of reasons whoever did this may have done it - medical, emotional, etc.
FC wifey 04-30-2008, 10:48 AM My cat peed on everything, then we found out he had feline leukemia. The vet told us it was natural to spray, but not pee. I dunno... Maybe watch to see if it becomes a pattern. Good luck!

I was in my bathroom, his box is in the other on- which is Jacks bathroom.

He's 5 months. This is the first time he or Ember has done this!

Well, i cleaned it with some pet stain & oder remover and then flipped it. It's a very expensive mattress so i'm still a little ticked at whoever did it.

What is the vinegar.water mixture? I already washed the sheets but I can rewash them and what kind of vinegar? I have some white vinegar that my mom used to make salads when she was here in jan. Will that work?
I'm just pretty worried that whoever did it may keep on doing it, like on the couch or in ds' room :no
Aundi 04-30-2008, 11:03 AM I wish I could help you out but both of my cats just turned 8 years old and neither one of them has EVER pee'd on anything I own.
I know natures miracle works well on dog pee though. A few years ago our male dog marked my sons bed and pillow as well as pooped right in his bed :vent
Miss B Hav'n 04-30-2008, 11:15 AM I use 50/50 water to vinegar (white vinegar to avoid any risk of coloration). We actually had a foster boy who peed on the side of DD's mattress and I just soaked the area, let it dry, soaked it again, let it dry - repeat as needed until there is NO trace of the odor.
There is a great book, Cat Confidential, that is by a feline behaviourist - a large part of the book (and her practice) deals with elimination issues such as peeing in the wrong place - she has some great advice on dealing with the issues.
airmanssweetie 04-30-2008, 02:37 PM Thanks! Hopefully we won't have this problem again!
2123wife 05-04-2008, 11:07 AM We have problems with my cat(s) too. I am fairly positive that only one of them is peeing outside the box but I dont know for sure. Its getting to the point where the kittehs are going to find a new home. Mine peed on one of my nice chairs in my living room and I sprayed urine gone on it every day until I couldnt smell it anymore. Also how old are your cats, when I took mine to get neutered they told me that cats can be fixed once they hit 6 weeks of age and I never knew that.
Also my cat will get in my dryer and pee on my clean clothes inside my dryer...:rant
Did you recently change cat litter? I know if the cat doesnt like the litter they will go elsewhere. We can only buy one kind(of course the expensive kind) or they will go outside the box.
