My husband got orders to Virginia and we are supposed to leave February 2009. WE are in Washington State. We have 2 school age kids and Im really bothered by the fact that they would probably be out of school for about a month. I was considering leaving in December so that I could do the move over the Christmas break. I know the Navy will let me ship my stuff, but would we be able to get the travel pay and DLA when I leave?

I think your best bet is to have him go to PSD and talk to the transfer clerk. I don't know about you going ahead of him. I think he has to be with you but he can get the right answer by going to PSD.

He could possibly get an advance and I think that is something like 10 day prior to the ordered move. Two months early, I think that is out of pocket until he moves.
Hope someones has a better answer.

depending on branch most likely not- if orders were to get changed and they allow you to move that far ahead and pay for it, they will then have to pay to move you AGAIN.. not financially beneficial for the military... KWIM?
you could always ask if they would pay to fly you and the kids so you can get them into school faster-
what they may be able to do is pay the per diem and you can use that to pay for part of the costs associated with flying-- but they will not pay 100% just for the flights.
Hope that made sense.....
