View Full Version : How much housework
Jennygirl 05-01-2008, 07:26 PM Do you actually have?
I dont have much...I do the dishwasher twice a day and I pick up the living room table...
I also run the sweeper every other day...Things like laundry are done on a as needed basis.
MIKOSWIFEY 05-01-2008, 07:29 PM I used to have light housework on a daily basis when my kid was your kiddo's age. Now as soon as I get ONE room clean I find that he has messed up another. So now it's a LOT. :no Once they're mobile, life is never the same.

:tired thats what im scared of!
airmanssweetie 05-01-2008, 08:13 PM I don't have alot, usually. I pick up after DH in the mornings :no Then i clean up after jacks breakfast, wipe down his tray, put things into the dishwasher, which is ran as soon as it's full, usually every few days since we don't eat dinner etc bc dh works late. Once DH goes to work at 2, I clean up w/e is needed, i sweep every other day, then i scoop the cat boxes every day plus i sweep in there, clean the tub every few days. Laundry is done as needed. Usually i mop once a month, if that. Toliets etc get cleaned as needed.
I clean DS' room every morning after he gets up (he sometimes wakes up early and plays and then goes back to sleep but not before destroying everything- hes gated in his room btw) and then again before bath & bed time. He is almost 17 months, he drags toys out, but it's really not too bad except for the mornings and that's bc he pushes over his little storage drawers that we keep a few onesie and shorts/pants in and drags them out LOL.
holy crap, you do dishes 2x/day!!!??
Jennygirl 05-01-2008, 10:54 PM Sometimes LOL I hate dishes just sitting in there..
navypeach 05-05-2008, 10:08 AM OMG, I have 3 kids, ages 6, 3, and 4 months. I swear my house hasn't been completely clean in years. Right now I have 5 loads of laundry to do, toys to put away, dinner dishes to wash, and I need to sweep, mop, and vacuum. I've had to learn to prioritize, since it seems there's always stuff that needs to be done. The Flylady website has also been a big help.
FTCWifey 05-05-2008, 10:16 AM Not a lot. I actually haev my kids do most of the work. My son does the dishes, my daughter does the bathrooms, except for toilets and tubs, I do those. DH and I do the laundry but the kids fold and put away their own clothes. DS is going to start doing his own laundry this summer. If I ask one of the kids to vaccuum they will, but I usually just do it myself. I absoultey HATE mopping and dusting, so that rarely gets done! I should get the kids on that too. :lol
FTCWifey 05-05-2008, 10:17 AM holy crap, you do dishes 2x/day!!!??
Our dishwasher gets run twice a day quite often!
Becca 05-05-2008, 10:28 AM Let's just say...when DH is home I have less. But right now I'm running this place on my own - and with my little 3 year old whirling dervish, the housework never ends.
Laundry, floors, dishes, bathrooms, windows (right, like I ever actually wash windows anymore :no), kitchen...
There's always something to do, yet I find myself doing less and less of it with each passing day :lol
Kaymara 05-05-2008, 10:39 AM Im ocd and I need to work on that :lol
I vaccuum daily
I do at least 2 loads of laundry daily
I sweep daily
I do my bathrooms 2 times a week
I do my kitchen daily
I do my floors (mop) 2 times per week
I wash all my rugs weekly
Bedding is weekly
I sweep the patio bi-weekly
I sweep the garage bi-weekly
I dust weekly
I pick up toys and such at least 3 times per day
I also steamclean my carpets monthly and couches as needed
Dishes are daily. I run the dishwasher and put the stuff away before I head to bed.
Thursday'sChild 05-05-2008, 10:43 AM I break down my housework so I do a couple things a day, instead of trying to clean the whole house in one day. Monday - laundry, Tuesday - bathrooms, Wed - vacuum & floors upstairs, Thurs - vacuum & floors downstairs, Fri - wash towels/sheets/rugs.
With that said...do I always do the assigned chore for that day? Nope! :arg I always do the laundry, but I sometimes skip the bathrooms - hey, they still look clean! I do vacuum the living room every week, since that's where the baby crawls around.
DH and I both try to keep the kitchen clean. I run the dishwasher every night right before bed, so in the morning I just have to unload it (or DH will if he has time before work) and wash the pots and pans.
Bryanna 05-05-2008, 10:49 AM Ugh.. there are only two of us.. but it feels like there are more chores to be done than when I lived at home and there were four people in the house!
I always have laundry to do.. I always have a litter box to clean... Dishes always need to be cleaned... we haven't gotten a vacuum yet, but I am sure I will be vacuuming all the time... I always need to sweep (especially in the laundry room where the litter box is)... I mop once a week or so... the bathroom gets cleaned weekly, as does the kitchen... my husband leaves things everywhere so I have to pick up after him.....
Brandi 05-05-2008, 11:03 AM You really do not want to know. :lol
Kaymara 05-05-2008, 11:14 AM You really do not want to know. :lol
You and I are the same I think in how we clean. So you probably do as much as me daily which means we are constantly cleaning :rofl
jen1982 05-05-2008, 11:32 AM I am a bit anal retentive about cleanliness, so I do a lot.
Dishes every day, I can't leave dishes in the sink. I used to be able to, but not anymore.
I always make the bed right away. (I know people who don't ever make theirs, so I count this. lol)
I dust daily. Lots of wood furniture that makes me sad to see dusty. lol.
I vacuume every other day.
I mop at least once a week, more if needed.
I clean windows, windowsills, baseboards, and fans every other week.
I do laundry every three days. Sometimes more. And always put it away as soon as it is dry. I can't stand leaving clean clothes to get all bunched up and wrinkled.
I wash the bedclothes once a week.
I spot clean the kitchen daily as needed, cleaning up the messes we make throughout the day, but once a week I pull everything out and wash the counters, and tops of everything. And do a deep clean on the oven, stove, and fridge.
I try to steam clean the carpets, and the dog's sofa once a month.
I sweep the deck, and front porch once a week.
I mow the lawn, front and back, once per week.
I trim the hedges as needed, normally a few times per month.
I clean each of our two full bathrooms once a week.
Rileysmom 05-05-2008, 11:39 AM Not a lot to be honest... laundry as needed, cat's litter boxes, packing lunches and doing dinner... my main priority is Tooters and his therapies/schooling/appointments/playing/etc. and that takes up quite a bit of time. In addition to that, cooking, bills and the cat stuff are my "jobs". ... My husband is also very OCD and enjoys chores... they are stress relieving to him. See, it is true: Opposites do attract! *cues Paula Adbul* :lol :hehe
ETA: We usually tag team together on the weekends and do deep cleaning, laundry, bathrooms... all that good stuff.

We have our west coast "parents" who are oposites like that...
My DH has OCD tendencies, but its my domain now and he doesnt like to do things my way LOL
I do the dishes, clean the kitchen, do laundry, pick up the living room table, and I run the vaccum on a daily basis.
prtyltlwif 05-05-2008, 12:43 PM I swear my house hasn't been completely clean in years.
:lol This is my house too! DH has become a SAHD since word of impending deployment came down (to spend time with the kids and actually get to see his wife before he goes) he said baby you won't have to lift a finger, just go to work and come home I'll take care of it...:fib RIIIIIIGHT!
Our house is a disaster....:sigh
sdshorty 05-05-2008, 01:06 PM Not much, I don't have that much time anyway, LOL. I run the dishwasher once every day or every other day depending on how full it is. I do laundry like once every 2 weeks. I vaccum like once a week. And I try to pick up around the house everyday little here and there. I do major clearning like dusting and bathroom and kitchen like once a month. I have a 600 sq. foot apt, not that much to clean, LOL!

Man, I know what you mean! ;) I have no idea how two people generate so much mess! Our apartment doesn't have a dishwasher so I do all the dishes by hand, and boy do they pile up...I washed some yesterday morning, DF and I washed some more last night before dinner, and this morning the sink is FULL. AGAIN. Also, there are BDU shirts and socks and shoes everywhere :whew It has been a learning experience....
Rain. 05-06-2008, 09:16 AM My 2 kids must have taken lessons in destroy moms work in less than 10 mins 101.
I can spend all day cleaning and turn around and see a mess again.
I use to try to keep up on it now i dont care so much LOL
freedomfromfate 05-06-2008, 12:31 PM I have to sweep, mop, clean the bathroom, vaccum, clean the dog poo in the backyard, clean the cat litter, dishes, the list goes on
I am a cleaning freak. I hate hate hate to have a messy house, I am constantly picking up stuff and cleaning/sweeping/vaccuuming, even though I work a full time job I manage to keep the house amazingly clean (and I have 2 kids), tonight I only have a load of laundry to do and the usual dirty dishes after we eat dinner.
mitziebella 05-08-2008, 11:03 AM I try to keep my downstairs neat and clean for the most part, but it seems like its always a struggle to keep it mess free. My girls are 6 and 3 and they are always coloring or eating and not knowing how to put things away. I am constantly yelling or picking up after them. I think between work, cooking, soccer practice, dance class, girl scout I am beat and just want to prop my butt on the couch.
The dishwasher is run daily, laundry I try to do a load a day, bathrooms are clean once every other week. I also dust and wip down my wood furniture with conditioner once a week (something i must do).
Dh helps keep the house clean when I am at work. He does help a lot when he knows i am stressed out.
