are 2 cats better than 1??
i love my charlie to death and we are thinking of getting him "a little brother or sister" as dh likes to put it. charlie is almost 2 years old. are 2 kitties fun?

i'm so afriad:
1. i love charlie and he's so awesome, what if i don't love kittie #2 as much:(
2. what if getting another will make charlie act differently and then i won't like charlie as much :(

I have four cats... I love all of them differently but every one just as much as the next. Don't worry about loving one more than another. You will love them both a lot! Each cat has it's own distinct personality and that makes me love them all so much more because they are their own "people".

I personally think that two cats are definitely better than one. The only thing you need to worry about is how they get along, so I would suggest taking Charlie with you when you pick out another cat so that you can get one that he will like. Don't expect them to immediately hit it off, but you may get lucky! One of my cats loves ALL other cats, and one of them took a long time to get used to the other three.

As for Charlie changing, he may change a little, but he will still be Charlie. It is usually just the transition period that you see some behavioral changes but all of my kitties went back to normal after a new cat was introduced. You may have a period of separate litter boxes and bowls, stuff like that, but nothing major. I would suggest getting a younger cat if you can because putting two adult cats who are already set in their ways is harder than introducing a younger cat, IMO.

Good luck, I think it's great that you want another kitty!

I definitely say yes, get a second cat. They need and love having another cat to play with. You'll fall in LOVE with your second cat, just like you did with Charlie, I promise :) They might be weary of each other for a week or two, but they'll warm up to each other!

They are SO CUTE when they do. With Tessa, my oldest cat, I was actually afraid she would never get along with the other cats. She has always been ornery though. :lol She is possessive and domineering and has been an absolute alpha cat since the day we got her. When we got the other cats, she made sure each of them knew that she was here first. :giggle She loves them all now, especially Lola. She has adopted her as her little baby, even thought she is my other cats real baby. :lol They still know she rules the roost, but they have found their own niches. They are totally cute together.

Even if it takes them a while to get used to each other, they will eventually. There will be most likely be a power struggle but that is normal. If Tessa can do it, then ANY cat can. :P

I've heard cats are solitary animals...usually favoring to be the only one. Super jealous. But, like humans they all act differently.

We just got a 2nd cat, Boo (the 1st) was pissy with us for about a week, but now they romp and play and sleep in a big kitten pile-up on our bed. I say get the second kitty.

another silly concern i have is about kitty #2's cuteness. see, to me charlie is THE cutest cat in the entire frickin world. he has the biggest eyes & ears i have ever seen, he looks like an alien. i used to call him "satelite-head" when he was a kitten cause his ears were like satelite dishes.

and even when i look at kittens, i never think they are as cute as him. i suppose that will change too, and i will think they are both the cutest. :P

I heard that too... then when I got cats I realized that isn't entirely true. They are independent, but not necessarily solitary. All of my cats are very needy in their own ways. Not like dogs are, but they all love having company. :lol

We have 2 but they just don't get along at all. I was really hoping for Matty to have a playmate but they just fight with each other or just ignore each other. I really think that it all depends on the kitty on whether or not they will be good together.
I would have ton of kitties if I could though, lol.

You sound so much like me with Tessa. :lol I think it's normal to have a preference to the way one cat looks over another, and it's normal for you to think one cat is the cutest thing ever one day and then the next day think that about the other cat. I have noticed over the past three years that my husband and I each have a "favorite" cat when it comes to the cuteness factor. It changes all the time, too. We used to ask each other every day... so which cat is your favorite today? We always chose a different cat from each other, and we always chose a different cat from the day before. :lol There was a period when Seven (our siamese) was in that teenager lanky growing up stage and I thought she was the ugliest thing on the planet. Of course, being so ugly made her soooooooooooooooo cute. :lol Their personalities have SO much to do with it too. I don't think it is realistic to think that you will have the exact same feelings for both cats all the time. That doesn't mean you can't love the hell out of both of them all the time!

Olive and Morgan are the same age, but we got them 1 year apart. Olive warmly welcomed Morgan. We didn't have any issues. And now they are BFFs. It's adorable to watch them playing, grroming eachother, sleeping side-by-side, etc. I heart my babies.

I've always had more than one cat. I think that all pets need a friend. :)

I love having two cats. Stella has turned into Marco's momma, lol and will tattle on him when he does anything wrong. it really helped bringing a kitten home, because she was already a skittish cat(thanks to some really cruel neighbor cats) and that way she was able to get used to him when he was 1/4 her size, lol.
