My DB is deploying soon - I'm actually going through my first "test" and if I do say so myself, I'm doing pretty good! He left Friday for 3 weeks for some training - ok he's only been gone about 48 hours, but I've been strong :)

Anyway - how does it work when they leave? Do we say "see you later" (we don't do goodbyes) at an airport, a base, a bus? I mean I know it's probably different for everyone - but what's the norm?

I'm just trying to prepare myself the best way possibly! Thanks so much!

We spent hours in the barricks before they actually got to get in formation to leave. It was VERY unorganized so we had to say goodbye twice which was awful! I will never forget the last time I saw him though. I will never forget the moment right before he marched off to war...it was dark and raining...he didn't break eye contact til he got on the bus. It's heartbreaking but romantic if you think about it. Later on being able to tell our children.....

I cried and cried...he, of course, did not! I know he wanted to though :) A lot of people dropped their SO's off and they did their goodbyes at the car. It's really up to you and your SO...whatever you are comfortable with.

Each deployment has been different for us. The end result is lots of hugging, crying and kissing. :(

with DH, I just drop him off at batallion. I don't see him get on a bus or anything. It makes it a bit easier on me to be honest. I never say anything about, "see you later" or "goodbye." I say I love you and give him a hug and watch him walk away. For me, it works.

Hi again. Just thought I'd check in and see how you're doing. The first few days are always the roughest for me. I hope your weekend wasn't too tough. :hug

My boyfriend is a blackhawk unit, so we had to say goodbye at the hanger before they flew the helicopters away. We hugged & kissed, and said see you in a few months. Then there was a cloud delay, so he came back over to me and we had to say a quick goodbye again.

To be honest, after he left and I got in my car to drive home, I felt a little relieved that the build up was over and we could finally start the countdown to his homecoming.
