sneaks up on you when you least expect it
you look up at the door and see his broad shoulders filling it and imagine him saying "Hi baby how was your day" and then you blink and he isn't there at all
or you are washing the dishes when that song comes on, you know "the one" by Tim McGraw, and you close you eyes and wrap the dishtowel around your hands and clutch the sink and let the silent tears just wash your cheeks until its over then you whipe your face and get on with those damn dishes
maybe your like me and just the moment that you are teetering on the brink of sleep you can actually convince your mind that he is there. that the weight of the blanket is his arms draped around you. That the fresh smell of soap and shampoo is from him not from you on your pillow and you smile and drift off only to find in the bright sun of morning that he's not really there and you indulge yourself that 30 seconds of self pity before dragging to the shower
UGH these deployments when clocks tick too slow, postal workers know his APO and your name by heart, dinner is alone in front of the TV and out of a box, Sat night means another movie on the couch, you just miss him no matter if he has 14 months or 14 days sometimes it doesn't seem to matter because the worry hangs there every minute he's away and it doesn't discriminate from day 300 or day 3
May they all be tucked in safe tonight where ever they are and know how much they are loved
