View Full Version : Server Upgrade - Important Information

I never thought I would see this day, but the time has come for us to purchase an additional server, which will give us two fully dedicated servers.

Our activity and forum size has pushed us past what our current dedicated server can handle so, without this upgrade, we will continue to hit slow times and errors which will probably only get worse.

As you can imagine, this isn't going to be an easy move for me, as it's going to double what I am currently paying for our 1 dedicated server. Additionally, I will have to add more RAM to the second server, to ensure that it can handle our database activity without bottlenecking and crapping out.

So, I'd like to ask that you all consider purchasing or renewing your Jewel Membership (http://forum.militarysos.com/payments.php), which will help move things along with our upgrades.

If your current membership is not expired yet, purchasing an additional membership will simply add the time on to your current membership. Example : You have three months left of your current membership. Purchasing an additional 1 year will give you 1 year plus your remaining three months.

If I can get us upgraded, I think there is a huge possibility that I'll be able to add back a points and gift system without having the worry that it will overload our server. Additionally, I plan to increase some of the perks of our Jewels, to thank you for your support.

As soon as I'm able to fund our server move, we'll be moving immediately after. Our server techs have said it's as simple as copying over our database information, which should leave us with very little downtime.

Thank you for your understanding and support (L)

Would deleting old, inactive accounts create more room?!?

Would deleting old, inactive accounts create more room?!?

Nope, that don't have anything to do with the database, it's more things like searches, new posts function, the amount of posts we have, new threads, siggie sizes, etc. It's how busy the forums are that keeps the resources maxed out.

This is the base price of one per month without any extras added. https://www.liquidweb.com/cart/content/dedicated/Webmaster/Plan2

We'll have to upgrade from the 3800 to the 5000+, 4 GB of RAM per server, plus cPanel/WHM per server.

It's going to run us close to $500 per month to run both servers, which is about double what I'm paying now. Thankfully, Jewels and people visiting our sponsors offsets this quite a bit.

Unfortunately, I'm bound by Google's terms of service to never publicly discuss their advertisements or encourage false clicks. Sorry, I just don't want to get the big boot because their program is like 60-70% of the funding I receive for the site :lol

;) So should I YIM you about these "false clicks?"

No, Gods of Google, I'm kidding. I shall henceforth only click the ads I'm TRULY interested in...17 times a day. :sarcasm (<<<<Just in case the GOG's don't know internet sarcasm when they see it. :rofl)

Brandi, do I have to get paypal to get a jewel membership, or can I just put in my credit card information like on every other site? (I feel like one of those pull string dolls, asking the same question over and over. I'm going to piss someone off and have my voicebox ripped out or get sold at a garage sale, lol)

A long time ago, Paypal used to require that you register for an account which took DAYS to complete b/c they have to send money to your account to verify and such. However, in the last year or two, they have started accepting any card with visa or mastercard (including your debit if it has one of the symbols) without having to register :woot Makes things MUCH easier. When you checkout, everything is done through paypal, just be sure to click the "I don't have an account" option when it asks for your login information.

Brandi I know I renewed not to long ago but I will go and renew for the next year.

Also does this effect TWH as well because if you need me to renew for both of them I can do that too.

Yeah, it's been a shocker for me as we've needed to upgrade but, rest assured, the jewels and sponsor ads most definitely help. I am VERY thankful I do not have to come out of pocket $500 each month, because I simply would not be able to afford it. SOS would not exist if it weren't for the Jewels and Ads. :lol

are you taking off the skins to save room. because earlier when I was on here I had a different skin. But if its all in the name of saving space then thats what you have to do. I was just curious.

No, but there is another post in the site news and information section about why they were removed. They'll be back, I just have to finish editing and upgrading the code for them so they aren't causing any conflicts.

Just got my year! I've been wanting to for a while. Good luck getting the move set up, Brandi!

ETA: Do I need to tell you what e-mail I paid from, or does it automatically go to my account? :dunno Sorry if I sound like a n00b. Me and paypal just started our relationship recently.

Me and paypal just started our relationship recently.

:lmao It's all automatic. The only thing that takes time to clear is an echeck. Everything else is pretty instant (will update within an hour or so).

Thank you so much for your support :hugs

Take your time, ladies. I have collected enough so far to get us at least our first month. So, take your time and remember that while it does help tremendously, absolutely no one is obligated to purchase a membership.

We had a few more tweaks made this afternoon that should help some until we get everything upgraded. We've blocked some of the yahoo bots from "leeching" our bandwidth, which will probably help a lot.
