:tears :tears we brought my SIL's cat home with us this weekend because she can no longer take care of it and charlie HATES her. :tears he is hissing and growling and won't come out from under the bed (so not like him). he even PEED in my suitcase. :tears i don't know what to do. we can't give her back because SIL lives in PA and won't take her right now because of a living situation. how do i make it better for charlie? he's so upset, and he is my baby. :tears

It just takes time. You brought a stranger into his home. kwim.

maybe try keeping the new cat in a seperate room for a few days and slowly let him out for a hour or so at a time, that way your cat is still the one in charge and can take time to get to know the newest member of the famly. Good Luck.

Awww :( I have no advice but I just wanted to say I'm sorry. That is so sad, poor Charlie.

i know, and i'll try to be patient. it just breaks my heart to see charlie act like this. he is the best cat ever.

yes, you're probably right, but i'd feel so bad to leave GiGi (new cat) in one room all day while we're at work. while i got ready for work this morning i locked her out of the bedroom so charlie and i could have some alone time. but that's when he came out from under the bed and peed in my suitcase. he would never do something like that. he must be so distressed and mad at us.

Ohhh you are so wonderful for taking the cat!!! I'm not an expert but I also think introducing him to Charlie slowly is the way to go. Good luck!!

This is some good info. I know some of it might be a bit difficult to do (ie the net barriers) but the general ideas are all solid for introducing new kitties to each other

WHat has worked for us the best is to leave the cats alone. WE would leave for the whole day. Usually after 2 weeks (long weeks) everything will calm down. :hugs

I have adopted many kitties, max is getting used to it:D

My sadie did the same thing. Just give em time and try to show him more attention so he does not feel like you are replacing him.
