OK we just got word that DH will probably not be home for any significant amount of time for the next 1-2 years. He and I have decided that the girls and I should go home. We've moved a lot, but we've never not PCSed and just done it on our own. So here are my stupid questions.

1. How much do boxes cost? What is too much to pay and about how many should I get?

2. For a family of 4 what size storage locker should I get?

3. If we stay home until the next time we PCS will they come pick up out stuff from a storage facility or not?


Is there anything else you think I should know?

I can't help you with anything else.. But I moved on my own when my husband and I got married and I just got boxes from the dumpsters behind stores like Wal*Mart and such.. Any store really.

You can call storage areas to see what they charge( a pretty penny usually) does your base have a recycling area ( i know whidbey does) maybe see about getting boxes there. They usually will pick up from your storage area as long as he lets them know he has one.( they won't get anything you have with you personally though if that makes sense) I have no idea how many boxes you will need since we usually TMO.
The only issue with storage is if things break in the next PCS you will more then likely NOT get reimbursed because you guys stored it yourself. kwim? For example our old neighbors went home during cruise, he packed everything up and stored it, she got base housing right before he came home, they broke a glass door to her entertainment center. They wouldn't pay for it claiming it had been improperly stored so they were not at fault ( see where i am going) so just make sure your good things are packed right.
