I'm trying to put together a carepackage for db because he's been really working hard lately, but im really running low on cash this month because everyone and their mother's birthday is this month as well as graduations. So far i bought a photo album(which was like $3 at hobby lobby, i love that place!) which im going to fill with photos i developed from his r&r, an electronic handheld game of uno (which was $5 on clearance at target and db loves them) and i made him some mixed cds with different types of music. I'm also thinking of making a couple dozen of cookies because thats not really expensive. We also plan on taking a vacation after he gets back, sooo im gonna make my own travel brochures of facts and places to see during the trip. Does anyone else have any ideas for something sorta cheap to fill the box and that could also kinda go with a traveling theme? If you cant think of any travel like stuff any cheap ideas at all can also work. Thanks so much :)

2 words: party store. They have all sort of silly party favor type things that you can send him. ie: if you are going on a tropical vacation you can send him a lei and grass skirt etc etc. I usually go to the party store for my DB and come out with a bunch of fun goofy stuff, I even got him a mini trophy and a ribbon when he got promoted!

The first cheap things that always come to mind for dh's packages is drink mix and candy, and they are always a hit! :)

The travel brochure is such a cute idea. That will give him something to look at and look forward to coming home. I know DH loves when I send pics (both in print and on CD) for him to look at. I love going through the toy part of discount stores like Big Lots or even the Dollar Store and finding little cars to send to him. Maybe if you could find some little cars or boats (depending on how you are traveling on your trip).

My friend and I hit up dollar tree all the time :D Plus, one thing I'll do is send a HUGE jug of Arizona Iced Tea... it's pretty cheap and he loves them... and it fills up a lot of space!

what about going to a travel agent and getting a few of the booklets they have for where you want to and put post its on the pages of the things you want to do??

cookies, jerkey, drink mix.....any food item is always a good bet. also, pictures of you or something to serve as a reminder of home. the party store is a great idea to if you want to have a "vacation theme" for something to look forward to.

Dh says 90% isn't what you get, it is just that you got something from someone you loved. So do what you can, enclose a nice letter, and you're set!

the dollar aisle at Target! sometimes they have fun or goofy things for sale, and they change them out pretty regularly.

The luau stuff would go over big aboard ship... :hehe

G's biggest request during the 6monther was a fan... their A/Cs were crap, and 6 months in Bahrain aboard a ship with no A/C= No comfortable rest at all...

Homemade rice crispie treats travel very well - make them in a disposable baking pan (those foil ones) or a cheap plastic container and wrap them with plastic wrap really well and there you go.

Well it sounds like u have great ideas already.
The Dollar Tree is my new best friend and I also just sent over travel brochures to Disney World and our Cruise.. he loved them. I also baked cookies. Maybe add a magazine ( under $4) and lots of candy/ chips from the dollar store.

Be sure to wrap up the cookies really well, maybe in a couple of gallon freezer bags with all the air out and then in a tupperware. My DB has said that of the cookies he has received, there's been about a 50/50 chance of them arriving stale. (It does take a couple weeks to get there, ya know). Just a word of advice :)

:dunno last time i sent cookies i used some new glad seal wrap and covered the tupper ware container before sealing the lid on and he told me they got there really well, still fresh and in one piece for the most part so i did that again. before that he had been eating them with coffee because they were a bit stale so he said he really (L) the seal

I think you should by the grass skirt and coconut bra from the dollar tree and take pics of you wearing it! :) Cheap and I'm guessing he would love that most. :)
