Jacob had his check up this morning. He is behind in his social skills and his speech which we already knew. She doesn't want to do allergy testing because the results will be better when he is around 5 or 6 years. She said I could give him Claritin everyday for a month and see if that helps him with the allergies. (clear runny nose) She was not concerned about the mystery fevers or the constant colds.
I like our pediatrician but I wish she understood my concerns better.
She said that she would get me the referral to Dr. Rice (developmental pedi). Who happens to be booked until March 2009 already. So they are calling over to put us on her cancellation list. She is going to call me back and let me know what is going on. All of this might be for nothing BECAUSE we are due to transfer in March. :sigh There are only two other developmental peds in town and they are all just as booked. I want DR. Rice because I have heard good things about her.

So you won't be able to see the doctor that you originally wanted? Hopefully the other guy will be just as good. Wow, March 2009, huh? I've heard of specialists being very backed up but that has to be a near record!
I hope the Claritin helps his allergies. May I be nosy and ask about his fevers? If you don't want to answer that is fine, I'm just curious. Sometimes I wish doctors didn't so easily dismiss concerns that moms have. Even if they feel that it is nothing.

No, we are not going to see DR. Rice and I am a bit bummed but I will ask around with the other mom's I know and find out about DR. Means she sounded nice on the phone and she was very excited to hear we had tried naturopathic methods successfully for his ear infections. She also said that I could give him the Claritin BUT I may want to try saline nose spray first as it can clear out the pollens and will not effect his behavior like meds may. So I am trying that first see if it helps with the clear runny nose.
With the mystery fevers for example last Saturday he was fine when he woke up we went to a family BBQ and about 2pm he started to feel warm and then was burning up 104 on the temp. I knew he was not going to get sick because I was able to control the fever (when he gets sick lately his fevers are hard to keep under control) he had the temp for about 24hrs and then was fine. It happens a few times a month.

That is odd about the fevers. Do you think it is a true fever, as in the body fighting infection, or maybe his body has trouble regulating his temperature? For example, at the BBQ was it warm outside, and that could have caused his temperature to spike? There is a name for it, I just can't think of it. 104 is not like it is a low-grade fever either, I'm kind of surprised the ped wasn't concerned about it.

That's great you got an appointment Jamie! That's why we put Riley on the EFM, because there is no way after all this shit I have gone through that I am going to move somewhere else and start all over from scratch. It's so sad that people have to wait many months when these first few years of life are so critical. :no

We need to get Jacob on EFM I think but the AFB sucks balls about helping Navy people get on EFMP. I am going to have Joe go when he comes home for a visit this fall.
About the fevers the pedi said it could be a virus and the only symptom is the 24 hour fever. It was not very warm the day of the BBQ either.

We need to get you on EFMP also. I will do what I can when I am on leave I will get all the paperwork here and bring it with me so all we have to do is mail it or I can just bring it back with me....I will contact the EFM Program Advisor here and get the ball rolling.......

That is great news about the developmental pediatrician. :woot
We were on a 5 year waiting list at one time for one.
My son gets the unexplained fevers too. Not as much as he used to, but he still gets them. It's really weird.
