Departing on a Tuesday or Wednesday is usually less expensive. Flights are high right now. I'm having troubles finding a decent ticket for DS and myself for next month, too. :sigh

try www.kayak.com

it may be best to leave on a tuesday or thursday. summer airfare is really high. i book a lot of airfare for work & it's costing me $740 for madision to sea, $800 for lexington to sea, & $800 to rochester to sea...so $500 for nashville to sea sounds about right (& reasonable).

How long is your trip? Dep on the 17th and returning on the 30th is $405 through Expedia (American Airlines connecting in Dallas). You could get it about $10 cheaper directly through AA.

I haven't found anything less than 500 for my trip either to CA. Its really sad how much money we have to spend just to see our SO. Worth it though!

Try surrounding airports.
Leave a day earlier/later.
Don't pick 'non-stop' flights.

DF just paid about 400 to come up for memorial day weekend. He had to fly into Boston instead of Providence (45 miles difference) and it saved him about 200 bucks! Sometimes it pays to drive an extra half an hour to get cheaper flights.

I found a flight from Nashville to ONE Seattle airport for 346$ :D By the time you read this though, it may have gone up :[

http://www.kayak.com/h/buzz/view?ac=&action=create&airport=Nashville%2C+TN+-+Nashville+Intl+%28BNA%29&code=BNA&dt=A&dest1=Seattle%2C+WA+-+Seattle%2FTacoma+Intl+%28SEA%29&desthint1=SEA&dest2=&desthint2=&dest3=&desthint3=&dest4=&desthint4=&dest5=&desthint5=&rc=u&tm=200806&ns=N&max=&mc=USD&submit=%C2%A0See+Best+Fares%C2%A0

My tips:

leave a day or so earlier: 14 day trip= 16 days, two for traveling
don't take flights on Thurs-Sun: those are biggest flight days
Be okay with stops and coach: makes for cheaper tickets
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE CASH ON YOU: AA is charging another 15$ to have a carry on :angry
Divide up your clothes: take a large backpack and put two changes of clothes in there as well as all your hygiene, your laptop (if you have one; sandwich it in your towel that you should take), an extra battery, your cell, a book or two and munchies.

To cut time in lines, check the security procedures at the airport: whether to remove your shoes, electronic stuff... Pretty much all airports tell you to empty your pockets and don't forget the liquids regs...

Pretty much all I have, so ya...

I just booked a flight from Seattle to Milwaukee for the beginning of July and on Priceline.com I got them for $310 a piece. It really takes a lot of looking to get a deal. Go on Tues, Wed. or Thurs. and settle for a flight that isn't nonstop. That's your best bet. If you're a student, you can try studentuniverse.com they have decent prices.

Download the Ding! Application from Southwest. I just did that yesterday and instead of paying $1200 for the plane tickets I got them for $700 for the three of us to go home in 3 weeks!

Try Southwest, I'm able to get a nonstop from Jax to BWI for $67. You just have to shop around. And the earlier you're able to schedule, the cheaper the flights.

Can you do a multi-destination trip? Going to 2 places can sometimes be cheaper. I am leaving to go to San Diego on June 16 for work and was to come home on the 18th and the ticket was 1208. I had them add a stop to Fresno in there, so departing SD on the 18, traveling to Fresno and departing Fresno on the 22nd. Doing so brought my flight down to $688. Quite amazing I think considering 2 of the flights are direct.

Definately try different days, +/- a day, and another airport. Good luck!!! Also, buy in the middle of the night, like after midnight and before 7am, not during business hours which tend to be more expensive for business travelers.
