View Full Version : Luggage question for flights
Victoria 05-15-2008, 10:36 PM So say you booked a trip on Expedia. for example, and your departure airline is different from your return airline. How does the 1 piece of checked-in luggage apply if only one of the airlines(return airline) you're utilizing has the 1 checked-in luggage policy?!? :confuzzle
I hope that made sense...LOL! It's late. :sigh
petsparkle 05-15-2008, 10:39 PM You have to abide by the rules of the airline you're flying on. It sounds like you'd be able to have two going out, but only one coming back. Since you're not likely to have less luggage coming back, you'll have to deal with just one checked luggage for your outbound flight too even though they allow a higher amount.
CAmom4721 05-15-2008, 10:39 PM I think with some airlines, they'll allow you more than 1 but they charge extra, I just saw a report on the news about it, I can't remember which airline they focused on though. Maybe your return airline does something like that?
Gillian_Angela 05-15-2008, 10:39 PM I think when you do the 24 Hour check-in, it's an option.
Also I don't believe they really go by that on expedia. There have been several times when I didnt' think I was going to check a bag and ended up checking one.
The only time it is a problem is when you have over 2 bags and they are too heavy.
Hope I helped.

Yeah there's an extra charge, but that'd piss me off even more....LOL!!!! Sucks for those who are unaware of the new policy when flying out, then returning on an airline who has the policy in place.
Gillian_Angela 05-15-2008, 10:42 PM I would go on your returning flights website to figure things out.
Especially for items like Carry-on
I know Continental allows you to check two bags, as does Southwest. And one Carry-On and a Personal Item

Well I'm a hair products whore and I've got my son traveling with me, so of course I'd like to utilize 3 or 4 suitcases. :hehe

It just SUCKS having to worry about ONE more thing when trying to select a flight on the "cheapy" flight ticket sites. :grumpy
I think I'll have to conjure up a spreadsheet with check boxes for yes or no on the baggage policy...LOL!

:rofl
petsparkle 05-15-2008, 10:44 PM Even if your son is a baby, he gets a baggage allowance, so you might check into that too.

is he a ticketed passenger? then he gets a bag too.
but yeah...expedia really has nothing to do with baggage policies. they are just a third party booking agency.

The thing that really irks me is because of the rising gas prices, airlines are starting to reduce the amount of bags you can check.
:no

Yeah he's going to be a ticketed passenger. I just find is "ODD" that there isn't a disclaimer on the list of flights when selecting...

that's not all they are doing...they're doing whatever they can to make the plane lighter. i read an article where they swapped out the beverage carts for lighter ones & removed the equipment from the galleys from when they served hot meals & so forth.

k then, you get a checked bag for him & one for you.
unfortunately, it's your responsiblity to know the airline's policies.
i usually use kayak to find ticket prices & then book directly w/ the airline.

I also heard or read somewhere, where flight times may take longer, due to planes flying SLOWER to save gas...:rolleyes

Yes because it's more fuel efficient.

I know we both get at least one checked bag. I've flown with him before as a checked passenger. :)
Thanks for the kayak tip!

Go Wolfpack!

yeah, a pilot friend told me about it. i love it for work because you can set all kinds of restraints...takeoff time window, landing time window, # of layovers, length of layovers, duration of trip. works great when i have to have people here in time for meetings & here long enuf for their last appointment before heading home.
