Nickschic 12-01-2005, 02:00 PM ok I know this is kinda gross but I need to know if its ok or I should be concerned Carrie only has one bowel movement a day but when she does its alot it fills her diaper and I change her after every feeding so I know its not cause its been in to long
Mandi 12-01-2005, 02:01 PM Is she bottle or breastfeed?
Nickschic 12-01-2005, 02:06 PM bottle
Mandi 12-01-2005, 02:12 PM Lance is bottlefeed also and was doing the exact same thing. I was worried about it too. I thought that he was possible constipated! But when I went the doctors he said the bottlefeed babies don't have bowel movements everyday, they can actually go a couple of days in between. But if she is having belly aches or her belly seems tender, I would maybe take her to the doctors.
Brandi 12-01-2005, 02:23 PM Thats normal. For formula fed babies, a bowel every 1-2 days is normal. If it's so hard that it's tearing her and causing blood to show up in her diaper, then you can give a little juice to help soften it a little bit. Otherwise, I wouldn't be too worried :)
mamaoftwins+1 12-01-2005, 02:58 PM your baby is fine bottle fed babies have alittle harder time digesting then breast fed so when they do poopy its alot and usually once or twice a day! no need to worry hth
Nickschic 12-01-2005, 02:58 PM Great thanks alot I feel better now
mara_jade81 12-01-2005, 05:56 PM haha dang then you should be happy. hayden poops every time he eats plus some :hehe
Caimbrie 12-01-2005, 07:23 PM As long as she doesn't go more than a couple days without a BM she's fine :) My boys all like to poop several times a day! I wish they'd only go once a day or skip a day! lol
Kaymara 12-01-2005, 09:29 PM My ped said a couple days is normal. As long as it isn't mucusy it is fine!! Wait til you introduce cereals and such! Phew does their poo change!!!

i personally think 3 months is way too early for juice. i am sure juice will help when they get older but not right now.

Well, I was told by both my kids peds (2 different ones) that they can have small amounts to help with constipation as early as 2-3 weeks old. So, I don't think 3 months is too early. I gave both of them a tablespoon or so at a time and never had a single issue with it.

That is what Lances doctor's said too, not only here in texas, but up in michigan where he was born. But no more that a tablespoon.

We were told to try an ounce of water (no more) and if that didn't work then a teaspoon of juice as well..
whoa! are your babies FF? maybe it is different with BF babies. i am not giving trent any juice until he is atleast 10-12 months old. of course we are not starting food until 6-7 months.
Mandi 12-02-2005, 10:42 AM Lance is ff, so there might be a big difference. I know when we went to get 2 month shots, dr told us to start cereal at 4 months. It must be different for ff than bf!!

Ethan was breastfed and formula fed when they told me if he got constipated to give an ounce of water. And a teaspoon of juice if need be. Ethan is a year old and just now getting juice and he doesnt like it which is fine. He prefers water ;) Every ped is different tho. Some have told me to start juice and others have been very happy I held off. So it varies.
