View Full Version : Another newbie girlfriend! (waves)
thedoc617 05-18-2008, 11:20 PM Hi guys!
My name is Laura, and my boyfriend is an Army man, he left for basic training on his way to Ft Benning, GA last week. I've never felt so conflicted before. I love him so very much (we've only been dating 6 months as of the 15th, but it seems like a lot longer), and I support his decision, but at the same time I feel selfish because I don't want him to be gone for so long. He's going for the OSUT (basic and AIT at the same place) so I won't hear from him for a long time.
He is officially at the basic training (done with reception week). How long did it take you all to get letters while they were in training?
I'm scared for myself, but I'm excited for him. I've never seen his eyes light up more than when he was talking about how amazing it would be to jump out of planes and do ropes courses. Everybody I've talked to said this will make or break the relationship, and that scares me most of all.
I look forward to getting to know all of you.
Laura

jeepgirl 05-19-2008, 07:14 AM i sent mine a letter a day, it was hard but it kept him going....he did push up for every letter but said it was worth it..sometimes it was only a card, sometimes a short letter but just something everyday...
torie. 05-19-2008, 08:37 AM :heythere Welcome!! I don't know much about lengths of time between communication for training and AIT because I didn't start dating my SO until he was on his 3rd deployments. I can offer deployment support and moving/PCS support though! :hugs
iowa_lady 05-19-2008, 10:45 AM Hello and welcome! My name is Maggie
SarahElizabeth 05-19-2008, 10:52 AM Welcome, Laura! :hi Glad you're here!
My DB is in the Marines, so I'm sure it's different. But it was a week after he reported before I got his first letter (I think...). I got about 1 letter a week, 2 if I was lucky! I think it took about 4 days for his letters to get to me, and MUCH longer for mine to get to him - he had 2 letters forwarded to him, and I stopped writing like a week and a half before he graduated! :lol
It's hard when they leave, but it does go by fast and it's so amazing when you finally get to see him! :)

yankeeCait 05-19-2008, 12:01 PM Hi Laura,
I'm new to this all too and my DB went to basic last fall. We had been dating for awhile, but it was something that made our relationship stronger rather than distance us. I don't remember when I got my first letter, but I do know I missed my first phone call from him and thought it was the end of the world. Then when I did get his call I thought he sounded terrible! I didn't realize is that he was talking on an outside payphone around about 60 other guys so it wasn't private at all. So when you get to talk to him if he sounds a little distracted that might be why. I just wanted to mention that because I didn't know and thought he was just miserable.
