Hi!! My boyfriend and I just decided to move in together in a few months when he goes to Charleston for Nuclear Power School. I was looking at moving to Charleston before I even met him because I heard it was such a great area (I'm from Baltimore and not a huge fan of MD in general).
Anyways, it's going to be hard because I'm going to school to be an esthetician (skincare, facials, makeup) them moving right there and going to need to find a job and new friends (I love him but would go crazy just hanging out with him!)
Any ideas of good areas to look at in Charleston to live, places to work, clubs or anything to join to meet new people, hangouts....even websites you could point me toward to help out. Granted I can always waitress for a little while when i first get there to pay the bills, but i need to meet people!! Any advice would be helpful. I'm new to the military sig other concept...
THANKS!!!!!!

used to live in summerville, sc and that's not far at all from charleston. it's a very nice area to live. as for charleston, i would def. make every effort to go to the market in downtown charleston, as well as the battery. you'll love it there. just be prepared for humid weather!

I went to College of Charleston my freshman year before I transferred to USC...also my grandparents live on James Island. It's very beautiful down there. I'm not really sure exactly where the nuke training is...I'm thinking that you would live more towards the summerville/monks corner area as opposed to living downtown.

He'll actually be going to school in Goose Creek, which is about a 20-30 min. drive from Charleston. Charleston itself is really pretty but Goose Creek is not the most exciting/nicest place in the world. I'm not sure about apartments and stuff like that but there are a few ladies on here that live in that area now or have lived there recently around. I know while they're actually in school it can be difficult to spend time with them if you aren't married. He'll be in class pretty much all day during the week and they have required study hours, which can keep them pretty busy. Good luck finding a place and a job!

DH was an instructir there til last Oct. I would have him check to see if he can live off base. I thought that in the first part of the school unless they were married they had to live in the barracks. I could be wrong but I just remember something about that.
As far as the area, lets just say we could not have gotten out of there any faster.

I'm in goose Creek now which is where he will be. Base housing sucks and if you look there are some nice appartments. But the area around base is really bad! I work in the schools and its just awful (gunshots off campus are no big deal to anyone at the schools!!!). if you need any help looking for places to live and what not you can get up with me. :)
