View Full Version : Be honest.
jlbecker 05-20-2008, 04:07 PM If your boss asked you to lie, would you?
ex: they want to get paid early and ask you to stamp an invoice "paid" well before they've cut the check.
Caimbrie 05-20-2008, 04:08 PM It really depended on what it was.. with that example, No.
mrs_ski 05-20-2008, 04:09 PM No.
My boss has screwed me before. I wouldnt do anything like that to jeopardize my job.
Carlye<3Sailor 05-20-2008, 04:10 PM Sounds like that particular situation could get me in trouble - so, no!
Lizim1981 05-20-2008, 04:10 PM Yeah it depends on the situation. If he asked me "If my brother calls tell him I'm in a meeting, I can't stand him." Sure, no problem.
But dis-honest business practices would be a no-no for me.
Rain. 05-20-2008, 04:11 PM No
LoveKiss 05-20-2008, 04:12 PM In that example... no. It would be called fraud in the Federal government and could land me in jail. :no
LovinganMP 05-20-2008, 04:12 PM nope. sounds too risky
*Sarah* 05-20-2008, 04:14 PM Yeah it depends on the situation. If he asked me "If my brother calls tell him I'm in a meeting, I can't stand him." Sure, no problem.
But dis-honest business practices would be a no-no for me.
:agree
Bryanna 05-20-2008, 04:14 PM The only kind of lie I would give would be like the one someone already gave an example for... lying about if someone calls to say they aren't there... that doesn't affect my JOB.
lying about anything that has to do with the business and my JOB.. HELL TO THE NO. that is not acceptable.
Shaky 05-20-2008, 04:14 PM Definitely NO. Even if you had proof that he did ask you that then the two of you would be screwed. If you don't have any proofs then it will be just you. I would not do anything to jeopardize my job.
Miss B Hav'n 05-20-2008, 04:20 PM In that example - no. I have, however, "lied" for my boss by telling someone she is in a meeting when she doesn't want to take their call, etc.
Shep's Wife 05-20-2008, 04:21 PM NO
they will pass the buck on to you in the end :yes
NewBeginnings 05-20-2008, 04:23 PM Yeah it depends on the situation. If he asked me "If my brother calls tell him I'm in a meeting, I can't stand him." Sure, no problem.

I agree
DutchGirl 05-20-2008, 04:24 PM Hmm... well, I'll admit that I've lied by omission and evasion (of the question). Yeah... I had a sketchy job once. I know maybe it sucks and not everyone would do it, but honestly... I work in entertainment and about 90% of everything is BS. Not doing it would have jeopardized my career much more. It would have meant that the CEO/owner didn't trust me, and in the most extreme of cases could have (and would have) made sure that I get a bad rep. Sometimes you have to go with the flow. I tried to limit it as much as possible though. Also learned not to ask a lot of questions, because of the whole "ignorance is bliss" mentality. But in the end, I was able to leave the job on good terms and with a good reference.
Sad, but true. (Ha, man I sound awful. I swear, I am an honest person... but I did not want to get fired or jeopardize my ability to get a job at a different company in the future.)
Stuck it out with that job until I couldn't take it any longer. Now I work in a much more corporate environment which is a lot more "normal" in that manner. Lying would be a biiiiig no-no. So, needless to say I am much happier and much less stressed out now. I am at a great company, with great people and I don't have to worry about all the junk that comes with having a job like that old one. I am personally an ethical and honest person... unfortunately I chose to work in entertainment, and those qualities are not always held in high regard.
Shaky 05-20-2008, 04:25 PM What if they are even testing you?
mpicky 05-20-2008, 04:49 PM My boss is the owner and president and only shareholder, I do what he asks me. I have no legal culpability in anything here, so I can't get in legal trouble, no can I lose my job, as he is the only person above me, I am 2nd in command here. He is ethical anyway, he wouldn't ask me to do something that could be perceived as illegal.
andrews_wifey 05-20-2008, 04:52 PM No. That a low blow and anything to get me into trouble would be a no no. If they have something they wanna lie about they can do it themselves no matter what the example
Green~Mammy 05-20-2008, 05:34 PM NO who's ass would be on the line for stamping something fraudulently. the one who stamped it and I would be unwilling to put my ass in that sling.
RunAwayLove 05-20-2008, 05:35 PM nope i agree with lizim
amandalaine 05-21-2008, 01:42 PM What if they are even testing you?
:yes
Or they might want a reason to get you fired!
amazinggrace 05-21-2008, 01:44 PM NO
brandewijn 05-21-2008, 04:50 PM No.
goldilockz 05-21-2008, 04:53 PM For your example, eh, dunno.
aubrey 05-21-2008, 04:56 PM For that example, no.
MarineLover 05-21-2008, 04:59 PM I hate it when my bosses/managers tell me that they are not there. I hate lying to people on the phone, I hate it the most when it is a wife calling.
Theresa 05-21-2008, 05:19 PM I wouldn't, but I'm a total square and completely against breaking the law in any which way. :lol
