I had my ultrasound and everything was going great. She is still a girl, and as beautiful as ever and the tech got all of the measurements that she couldn't get last month. But while doing the scan she discovered the baby has pyelectasis, which is an enlargement of the kidney. It isn't really a BIG deal. It is common, and frequently resolves itself. It is also a marker for Down's but since I don't have any other risk factors I am not even considering that.

What DOES make me nervous is that DHs daughter had kidney problems (reflux) which they didn't catch until she was around 3 and she ended up needing to have surgery on her ureters. And this could be that same thing. I am a little nervous that it won't clear on it's own and they will have to operate on my little girl sometime soon after birth.

So if you could just send some good vibes or prayers if you pray, I would appreciate it. And, so would my husband I am sure, poor guy is a mess with worry.

I'm sure that it will be ok. And now that they have seen this it won't take until she's three to figure out if something is wrong. So that's a good thing. And I'm glad she hasn't sprouted a penis in the last month.

I agree that it is a good thing that they are seeing it now. Another good thing is now they have to do ultrasounds on every visit! :woot

Not sure if the window is closed or not, but it doesn't matter. I am really unconcerned about that factor. I really don't think she has Down's but if she did, I am okay with that.

:hugehug i hope it resolves itself! a good friend of mine has a daughter with kidney reflux. they discovered it in utero. she was on antiobiotics for a looong time and sees a urologist occasionally, but she's a-okay.

I had some similar news with my first pregancy and was a nervous wreck until I had my next ultrasound. I wasted all that time worrying and everything ended up fine. Try not to destroy yourself over something you have no control over. Just focus on the fact that you are going to have a beautiful little girl!

Thank you! I am really not a nervous wreck about it at all. And I won't really get nervous unless the size gets up to around 9mm which is where they are talking surgery after birth. I am currently at 5. Just hoping for some goodvibes that it doesn't get that far! :D
