I don't have one written up.. but I have a few things I specifically want.

I want to be able to use a yoga ball, I want to be able to move around the room freely and use the bathroom as I wish and I want to avoid an epidural at all costs. I've done a natural brith with no meds and then I had an epi for 2 of them. It takes hours and hours to wear off and I am left with side effects for months.

I was kinda told not to make one w/ the Naval Hospital here. I was told by my Doc that I might be treated badly because of it! Soooo I just planned on having a Vaginal birth w/ Epidural.

I'm going to the same midwives as I did with Zoe. Didn't need one then, don't need one now. They are WONDERFUL about letting me do it my own way.
I do plan on using the jacuzzi, birthing ball, etc just like last time. I'm going to go natural (drug free) again this time.

For next time around:

Dope me up, cut me open, no I do NOT want to see, no I do NOT want to cut the cord, my husband doesn't either, DO NOT hand that kid to me until it is clean. Don't shoot my kid up with stuff either.

exactly the same thing..we are trying again whe DF comes home and thats the way my daugther was born..as bad as it hurt it was so refreshing to be able to get up and move about as i pleased and not be confinded to a hospital bed feeling drunk for months after.

My birthplan is actually quite long, but I'll give you the highlights.
1. No induction unless there is NO other option
2. I want to be able to move around freely and eat and drink small amounts if I want to
3. I want to use a jacuzzi tub and any other methods that might be useful for pain management
4. I want to push when I feel I need to unless I need to slow down to avoid tearing. No episiotomy (no matter what), forceps or vacuum.
5. I want to "catch" my own baby, the cord will remain intact until it stops pulsing, and I want to breastfeed the baby immediately.
6. No circumcision.
7. The baby will not leave my husband's or my sight the entire time we are at the hospital.
8. I want to leave the hospital as soon as possible.

Of course, this is keeping in mind that everything goes well and that there are no complications. I do understand that things can go wrong that might prevent the natural, medicine free birth that I want to have.

Go in, get my pitocin started, get my epidural, deliver vaginally, let DH cut the cord and then please wipe baby down before handing her to me. Plain, easy, simple.

Labor at home as long as possible, head to hospital, NO epidural. I like being able to move around and stretch(and drink water!). No epesiotomy or vacuum.
NO TAKING MY BABY. Period. If a test needs to be done, one of us will go. Otherwise, I keep him/her.
I never sent Liam to the nursery(and wouldn't let them take him)and that's how I like it. :D

The hospital I had Cameron and Wyatt at didn't give you the option of sending the baby to the nursery. They had to always be in your room unless they were getting circ'd or shots. I sent Tony with them for all of that. I liked it that way. When I ahd Alex I refused for him to go to the nursery.

I have a question for those of you who actually have a birth plan on paper... do ya'll write it out a special way? or just list it? :lol I know it's a silly question. I want to bring it with me after the very bad experiences I had at Portsmouth Naval having my last 2 boys.

I have it written out a certain that explains to them that while I respect the medical field this is my birth, my body, and my child. I have a copy on my other computer and it is upstairs. When I go up there in a little bit I will post my word for word.

I also dont just take one copy. I am 8 weeks and I already have one in my file the doctors. The hospital will recieve a couple of copies as well as every nurse that we have contact with. It may sound anal BUT I dont want anyone to play the "oh I did not know" card.

mine was a checklist that had like 3 or 4 options and i could check the best choice. my midwife also made some extra little remarks on the sheet

This is what my birth plan looked like. I'll use the same one with this one.

This birth plan is intended to express the preference and desires I have for the birth of our baby. It is not intended to be a script. I fully realize that
situations may arise such that my plan cannot and should not be followed. However, barring any extenuating circumstances, I hope you will be able to
keep me informed and aware of my options.

Pain Management

-Please do not offer me pain medication.
-I do not want an epidural, please do not offer me one.
-I prefer natural pain relief measures. Ex- Standing, moving, birth ball, etc.

Labor

-I would like intermittent fetal monitoring.
-I would like minimal internal exams.
-I do not wish to be induced; please allow the bag of waters to break without intervention.
-I would like the freedom to move and walk as I choose.
-I would prefer not to have an IV, although a heparin lock is fine.

Delivery

-Please tell me when the head is crowning.
-I prefer a tear to an episiotomy.
-I would like to choose the position for delivery.
-I would like the option to push when I feel the urge, rather than directed pushing, unless stated otherwise.
-My partner would like to cut the cord.

Postpartum

-I want skin to skin contact with my baby immediately after delivery.
-I would like to breastfeed as soon as possible after delivery. I plan to breastfeed exclusively.
-I would like to be discharged as soon as possible.

In the event of a c-section

-I would like both my partner and my doula present.
-My partner would like to cut the cord.
-If possible, I would like my partner to go with my baby.
-If possible, I would like my doula to stay with me.
-If partner is unavailable, I would like my doula to go with my baby.

Baby Care

-I prefer to delay any and all procedures until after baby and I have bonded.
-We are delaying immunizations, please do not give my baby any immunizations.
-My baby, a boy, is NOT to be circumcised.
-I would like to give my baby his first bath. In the event of a c-section, my partner would like to give the first bath.
-I prefer that my baby not be given bottles or pacifiers.

I dont know about all this talk of a birth plan. I dont have one really. I told my doctor what I wanted and didnt want and he was just like OK! made a small note in my chart and thats it. I didnt even think to write one out.

I understand that we are flying by the seat of our pants here and everything is subject to change. But given the perfect experience again this is what I want.

Pain Management

-Start with Staidol (sp), it would be best to give it to me shortly after I arrive
-I want an epi when I can get one
-Please cut off the Epi an hour before I have to push so I can feel

Labor

-I would like constant fetal monitoring, just leave the thing on my belly
-I would like a nurse to check my status at least every hour
-I want an IV and oxygen, I need to keep my fluids up

Delivery

-Please tell me when the head is crowning.
-I prefer an episiotomy vs tearing.
-I will grunt when pushing, let me make what ever noise I want, I won't cuss
-I do not want to be pushed to do breathing exercises, just let me focus on the job at hand
-My partner would like to cut the cord if he's concious, if not, the doctor should just do it, I don't want to, don't ask
-If my legs are in the way, direct my husband to pull them up, don't tear my muscles by shoving my legs out of your way.

Postpartum

-I want skin to skin contact with my baby immediately after delivery.
-I would like to breastfeed as soon as possible after delivery. I plan to breastfeed exclusively.
-I would like to be asked if visitors can come in, I need my rest, including my husband, he doesn't understand that I need sleep
-The baby shall stay in the room with me and will not leave the room for tests unless my husband or I go with the baby

In the event of a c-section

-I would like my husband present
-My partner would like to cut the cord.
-I would like my partner to go with my baby.
-I would like a friend or family member to come and stay with me

Baby Care

-I prefer to delay any and all procedures until after baby and I have bonded.
-Explain to me why you are touching my baby and what you are doing before you do it.
-I would like to give my baby his first bath. In the event of a c-section, my partner would like to give the first bath.
-I prefer that my baby not be given bottles or pacifiers

If you go to Whattoexpect.com they have a birth plan work up there that you can print out. Or write up a list of thing you want to see happen its your bith after all.
Are you having the baby at Trident? Cuz I have had two freinds give brith there. I would recomend having a written up copy with you...maybe even more then one. I hated the docotors at the Naval Hospita lin chalreston so I switched to Standard and I see my own doc. I would be sure that they get your birth plan and know and understand this is how you want it done. There was one guy there who tild my friend he was going to c-section her if he was on call when she went into labor and she realllly didnt want that. He wasnt on call thank goodness!

Only thing I am having on my list is no pitocin, forcepts or vaccum extraction. If it comes to that I want a c/s.
Other than that....I want to be left alone and given drugs if I want them.
I dont put high expectations out for a birth plan because I know that sometimes things get weird and we can't control it so I dont want to be disappointed if I sit and plan it out and nothing happens like I want it to.

I just want to thank you all for sharing your birth plans. I already had one, but when I read yours I realize that there are things that I've missed or things that I might want to expand on. So, thanks for your help! I really appreciate it!

Pretty much just plan on scheduling the c-section, going in, having baby, going home. I want to go home sooner than I did last time and since I'm not having the same bp issues with this pregnancy, I don't think that should be an issue. And NO MAGNESIUM!!!!
