Is there already/going to be an Antichrist?
Do you believe in it? Do you think it's bullshit? Do you think that people who believe that fairytale are ignorant? :D Discuss!

I'm not sure what I believe.. maybe not so much in the literal sense, but possibly the antichrist could be more symbolic.. (I'm reaching here, I know)..

SIMMYBABEZ 05-22-2008, 06:53 PM Whilst I don't believe in god and all that jazz, I do think, that if there were ever to be a time for the rapture, anti christ & end of days.. it'd be now. We live in a very evil and morally corrupt world. We no longer have values, and those few that do- can be and sometimes are bought off. Ofcourse there is those pockets of wonderful people, with lovely hearts- but it's now a dime in a dozen.
So I think if god exists, and he has a nemesis, he will be popping up in our lifetime. Because really, things are only going to get worse.
Fidzy 05-22-2008, 06:54 PM I don't know. I don't really believe in God, Satan, etc... :hide

Alexandra 05-22-2008, 07:44 PM I get what you are saying Simmy, and sometimes it certainly feels that way, but if you look back at the writings of almost any period of history, everyone thought they were living in immoral times. Mores change and it freaks people out.
No, I don't believe in the Anti-Christ, or that Jesus was divine, or anything supernatural. I believe everything that happens on this earth and in the universe obeys the laws of physics, but that there are some phenomena that we have yet to fully understand (maybe we never will.)

Sweetest*Agony 05-22-2008, 09:43 PM I don't think the "anti-christ" is a person. I think it is all around us in our day to day lives. I also put it in "" because it is thought a religious thing but I see it just as a negative aspect of our society.
All the negative things that inhabit the human race, from murder and war to cheating and lieing. It is all the negative aspects of our world.

But as far as anyone being doomed, we all go down the path we choose, not a path that a supposedly divine individual tells you to go down. We will be responsible for our own demise.

We live in a cursed world. :dunno This was never God's plan for us, he didn't want us to have to live like this. He wanted everything to be perfect, but those two yahoos in the Garden screwed it up for everybody.
Even natural evils like earthquakes, tornadoes, and floods have their origin in the wrong use of human free choice. You can't forget, that we are living in a fallen world.. And because of that, we are subject to disasters in the world that nature would not have occurred if man hadn't rebelled against God in the beginning.
In Genesis, it's indicated that when Adam fell, one of the consequences was that the Earth was cursed. Romans tells us that the entire creation was subjected to futility and the bondage of corruption. Conditions began to deteriorate on Earth. Human paradise was no longer a paradise. The environment of this world changed dramatically.
But I believe that it will get better. :yes

Oh, I am not saying that my world is a horrible place or that in so many words. What I am saying that hell is the temptations of evil. I believe that because of those two we were cased in this. I also believe that if we live right and repent/confess for when we fall short (not just doing it to say we are doing it) we will be rewarded a better place. I believe in GOD but sometimes I have issues with organized religion. I do enjoy going to church and fellowship but I really don't like the my way is right and your's is wrong. When it comes to religion to me, Man has translated it to what he wants. If one studies in depth different religions most of us have common ground. If one pray to Allah...he is still God. Therefore its not praying to another God as in the commandments. :dunno
Ok, I am responding to two threads in one SORRY!!!
libbydc 05-22-2008, 11:37 PM Sorry I'm late on this.
I suppose that the Antichrist will be a human. The very definition of Antichrist denotes it I suppose. For me the jury is still out, and I am still studying Revelation, and all that is referenced to it in the Bible. But putting the Biblical exegesis aside, I can say that there is a lot of instruction on false prophets. I am well versed in it and aware in the event that it comes to that.
To answer the OP it's possible that the Antichrist is here in form already or not.... :dunno Isaiah has a lot to offer on end times. I do not think that believers are nuts nor do think it's a fairytale.... I think the interpretation is key, but not vital.

SIMMYBABEZ 05-23-2008, 12:45 AM Imagine that there is a rapture. People; christians, disappear. What excuse would us 'non believers' make for that? I know! Alien abductions! And then all of a sudden- the world will be in turmoil. We will be begging for a strong leader- we will be so upset and frightened, that we will all "come together" and want to be one nation. Kind of like when you are scared, you pull your body close in the foetal position. And just at that moment- the anti christ will appear, and he will sweet talk us into believing that everything will be ok, that we will once again go back to the way things were. That if we stick together, we will live in utopia.
And we will believe him! Cos he is saying everything we want to hear. So he will rise to power, and then screw us over. It says that we can still be saved, but we must not take the mark of the beast. Hmmmm I wonder what the mark is? In these common days, it could be anything from a microchip, to a stamp in our passport, to a social security number. It may not be a tattoo of sorts, like we usually think of.
Well the idea of this is completely scary, but also so amazing. It will be the beginning of the end, but just the beginning of wonders for some. I don't believe in god, and I don't believe in all of this, but I haven't closed my mind off it completely. It *could* happen, because anything is possible.
I just hope, that if all these predictions are true- that I'm alive to witness it. So I can be *saved* before it's too late- and also, bare witness to the greatest battle of good vs evil the entire universe will ever host.
Amazing possibilities.

:faint from what I've read and understand you'd better be sure of your belief the moment the rapture happens. Many will not survive the tribulations I assume. This is an interesting and open (I so appreciate that) perspective that I have never been exposed to. So if millions of people do disappear, and bodies reassemble from their graves and ascend what will you assume, and what will be your course of action from then? You know there are theologists that believe that there are no chances post rapture.... but they also debate the time of rapture in relation to tribulation.

You know there are theologists that believe that there are no chances post rapture.... but they also debate the time of rapture in relation to tribulation.
From what I've read, and from what I imagine.. I tend to believe that if this happens, we will get more chances if we survive after the rapture. I don't think the rapture itself would actually destruct the *earth* too much... but when you think about the amount of people that will disappear, it won't be a pretty picture. There will be pilots, drivers, air traffic controllers, doctors & nurses, nuclear technicians etc....... if they disappeared- it would be mayhem.
Planes going down, nuclear disruptions, car accidents, surgeons disappearing during surgery! IF we survived past that one fateful event- we could still be saved. Sure, we are the sinners left behind- but it wouldn't be too late. Afterall, it hints that if we take the mark of the beast- we will have no chance. But what if we don't? What if we pledge ourselves to god? I imagine, that if we die before, during, or if we live through the tribulations, we will present for the glorious appearing aka judgement day. Therefore, we will be in God's kingdom in the end.
I think those who will be raptured, or the christians who have died beforehand, are in somewhat of a holding bay until then. Kinda like purgatory. I don't really know- it boggles my mind abit, and cos of the lack of evidence, and my lack of faith & belief, I really have no idea- but I don't think that we will be doomed indefinately, if we are 'left behind', unless we pledge ourselves to the false prophet.
*general we's.

Nope - total fiction contrived to get people to follow one faith and give all heed to the Catholic Church.
They put together the Bible, afterall.
Yet, no, I don't think people are stupid for believing such things - you believe what you believe, whatever makes your boat float and your mind ontrack.

Ah-ha... The Catholic church claims to be responsible for the Bible the same way Al Gore claims to have invented the internet.. :tsktsk
The Catholic church did not put the bible together, they only claim to have....
If the Bible is a Catholic book, why does it nowhere mention the Catholic Church? Why is there no mention of a pope, a cardinal, an archbishop, a parish priest, a nun, or a member of any other Catholic order?
If the Bible is a Catholic book, why is prayers to the saints, adoration of Mary, veneration of relics and images, and many other rites and ceremonies of the Catholic Church, left out of it?
If the Bible is a Catholic book why does it condemn clerical dress? Why does it teach against the adoration of Mary?
If the Bible is a Catholic book why does it teach that all Christians are saints? Why does it condemn the making and adoration of images?
If the Bible is a Catholic book why does it teach that baptism is immersion instead of pouring?
If the Bible is a Catholic book why is it completely silent about infant baptism, instrumental music in worship, indulgences, confession to priests, the rosary, the mass, and all that other gobbildy-gook in the Catholic Church? :dunno
Respectively, believing that the Catholic church put the bible together is an inaccuracy.... :wink
Bryanna 05-26-2008, 04:28 PM Ah-ha...
If the Bible is a Catholic book, why is prayers to the saints, adoration of Mary, veneration of relics and images, and many other rites and ceremonies of the Catholic Church, left out of it?

cool.. totally never thought of that! although... didnt the catholic church EDIT the bible a bit?? i've heard that stories and what not have been taken out....
little.lili 05-26-2008, 04:45 PM errr... the catholic church did put it together... b/c that religion meant to unit all the small cults of Christianity back in the day....
Further more... all those things are included in the bible b/c they were written by different people who each had their own views of what Christianity should involve.

if you are refering to the "gospels" that weren't included.. these were mostly written too far after Jesus's death and so we're seen as irrelevant because 200 years after the fact.. things get blurry
Also... There is NO original copy of the bible... we have no idea how many times these stories have been rewritten
Green~Mammy 05-26-2008, 04:53 PM cool.. totally never thought of that! although... didnt the catholic church EDIT the bible a bit?? i've heard that stories and what not have been taken out....
Nope Martin Luther removed books from the Catholic bible to form the version most other denoms use.

I don't understand this, what exactly do you mean? Do you mean that the Bible is unreliable because it was penned by man and they are biased?
Or do you mean that my points about the Catholic church aren't backed up by scripture?
little.lili 05-26-2008, 07:01 PM I don't understand this, what exactly do you mean? Do you mean that the Bible is unreliable because it was penned by man and they are biased?
errrrr... yes.
well not "unreliable" But the Bible is a collection of many books of many authors of different times and opinions.
Collectively it becomes ONE work. One very real and authentic peace of literature.

Alright... So. What you're saying is that no one knows for sure what books belong in the biblical canon? You are referring to the books that were doubted for a certain time; Hebrews, Jude, James, 2 Peter, and 3 John.
There were five primary canonical tests that were applied in the course of determining which books belonged in the New Testament.. It was just "decided" by some dude which one were to be included, it was thought out carefully and under STRICT canonical tests...
I really don't care to go into them in detail, you can google it..:P
As to not being an original copy of the bible, and not knowing what's in it, that's an old old argument.. Yea, there ARE over 5000 partial and complete manuscript copies.. But if they are studied, they are amazingly the same.. Word for word.. Even the oldest copy of the Dead Sea Scrolls found in 1947 dated to 150 BC is essentially identical to the copies of Isaiah found at the Holiday Inn Express up the highway..

the canon bible was created by man.
the books that i was refering to where the NON canonical "gospels" that were not chosen to be canon.
also. no. these "identical" copies are what they are copies... because that was the only way to preserve them
no physical copy dates to the time when these books should have been written.
there is no original copy of the Hebrew Bible or New Testament that lived to this day. (or it has not been found)
150 BC is atleast 30-40 years after all gospels where written...
there is no such thing as a manuscript that can be called "the 1st book of John ever written"... nor of any other Gospel, or part of the Bible.
leftover 05-26-2008, 07:32 PM I don't mean this to be a big snotty meanie head... but what's your point? :puzz I don't unnerstand what you're :poking at..
little.lili 05-26-2008, 07:36 PM well i was only putting some facts out there on how the bible was put together since Bryanna had made a comment about it being edited or whatever....
I have no problem with the Bible :P its an interesting book
leftover 05-26-2008, 08:20 PM :thumbsup I get it.. Sometimes I'm :duh dense..
Bryanna 05-27-2008, 04:48 AM well, I for one find it all fascinating :)
