View Full Version : Do you believe your religion is RIGHT???
*MedicsHeart* 05-22-2008, 07:14 PM So, what is your religion?
Do you believe your religion is right and that others are wrong? If so why??
Or do you believe there is more than one right religion?? explain
flangl18 05-22-2008, 07:41 PM For me, yes. It may not be for others. I believe that the only way to eternal life is through accepting Christ and if people want to learn more about it, I am more than happy to share. But, not everyone wants to know.
sweetheartjess 05-22-2008, 07:42 PM i can't seem to choose between two. :lol so.. no.
goldilockz 05-22-2008, 07:43 PM I don't believe "religion" is right.
Mommy2Bailey 05-22-2008, 07:43 PM I think people should be able to believe what ever they want to believe and not be made to feel ignorant because of those beliefs. Not everyone has to agree on the same things.
brentscrystal 05-22-2008, 07:45 PM I believe that what I believe is right for me and my family, but I would never force what I believe on someone else.
Gillian_Angela 05-22-2008, 07:46 PM I like my religion, Judaism. Not just because it's a religion but a culture into itself.
I am open to all religions personally and think that we should take a little bit from every religion. I think it's almost kind of silly to practice the doctrine of just one religion :giggle
But then again I believe in orthopraxy as opposed to orthodoxy
Loretta 05-22-2008, 07:47 PM I don't believe "religion" is right.
ITA.
I think maybe one philosophy or deity may be "the one", but humans have corrupted religion so badly...I'd hate to be associated with that. :lol
Missin_Him 05-22-2008, 07:47 PM I believe that what I believe is right for me and my family, but I would never force what I believe on someone else.
:agree Each to its own
LittleBit84 05-22-2008, 07:49 PM To me, religion is like an opinion: no one's right and no one's wrong :)
Green~Mammy 05-22-2008, 08:35 PM No I am Jewish BUT I am more comfortable in a UU church where we all can learn from each other and the I am right you are wrong gets completely left out of it.
My husband has a theory that there are other G-ds because G-d commands us to worship no other G-d but him. Which leaves room in my husbands mind for the fact that their may be other G-ds out there. Me I wonder sometimes if G-d just was seen in different ways by different cultures as many of the major religions parallel each other. For me how ever Judaism is right for me. What is right for others should be up to them to choose without me telling them they are wrong for the choice they make. Judging people is not my job, it is not what G-d put us here on earth to do.

:agree
I personally don't think that any religion can be "wrong". It's their right to choose what they believe and I would never judge someone on their religion. That's just being closed minded. It infuriates me when people shove their religion in other's faces. It's like a pet peeve for me.
Becca 05-22-2008, 08:48 PM If I didn't believe my religion was right, then I would have to believe it was wrong. If I believed my religion to be wrong, it wouldn't be my religion.
Make sense?
sandykay 05-22-2008, 08:51 PM I believe it is the right one for me, but not necessarily others. I think people have to decide what is best for them. I will not talk to others about what I believe cause I would not want them doing the same to me, you have to decide on your own.
I'm Catholic. I don't think my religion is more "right" than any other religion. It's relative to the individual and what they feel is right for them.
SnarphBlat 05-22-2008, 09:02 PM Religion was really created by people IMO. It's an organized way to do something, a list, set dates ect. I wouldn't call myself religious. Nor would DB. But we are Christian. We believe that Jesus died on the cross for our sins. I believe in the bible. I sometimes go to church, but I won't call it a religion. It's a faith and a belief and I am saved by grace.
I don't think any "Religion" is perfectly right. Because we ourselves are not perfect. But I do believe God is right, and what He does is perfect. No matter if we think so or not.
So far God has not lead me the wrong way. He has brought me to DB and through my entire life so far. I wouldn't change what I believe for anything, it's the foundation I stand on. No one can move me from it. You can criticize it, talk down about it. But I wont be moving. :)
pennylayne 05-22-2008, 09:09 PM My dad was a pastor, so growing up it was drilled into me that wha he said was the true and right thing. when I turned 17 and moved out i really had to revelautate if I believed everything becuase I really did, or becuase I was my dad. Sometimes I wonder if all the belivers in christ (of which I am one ) will be the ones atually going to some sort of hell, instead of everybody else. I don't know. Is kinds of scary aually. faith is a very serisous thing. I have a mishmashed sort of belief know, l believe hat the world was created, but I also believe in reincarnation an karma as well. who knows at this point what really happens.
little.lili 05-22-2008, 09:14 PM I think that there is "some thing" out there bigger than all of us.
And through religion, any and all religions, and to each person individually, there is a way to connect with that.
I think that religion is a man made thing to acknowledge the existence of this "larger than life" god, spirit, mother earth, whatever you want to call it. And that all religions are right, and non are wrong, because they are all looking for the same thing, same concept of believing and faith.
little.lili 05-22-2008, 09:14 PM woops. double post haha
Sweetest*Agony 05-22-2008, 09:15 PM OK so for my answer I might be roasted and toasted then skinned to my bare bones.. but I am willing to submit my answer. So please no one hate me for it because it is just what I believe.
I don't agree with any religion to be honest. I believe there is a higher being but us as humans don't know if it is a single being or many beinging.
Another reason is that I believe that all organized religion is a Cult. Given there are MANY deff. of Cult but if you look it up Religions fall under at least one of them.
Some meanings of Cult: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&defl=en&q=define:cult&sa=X&oi=glossary_definition&ct=title
: # adherents of an exclusive system of religious beliefs and practices :
:Veneration ( or honoring ) of a saint expressed in public acts, local or universal, and formally approved by the Pope. :
USCGBoxerMom 05-22-2008, 09:55 PM I am an Agnostic border line Atheist, so obviously for me my "NON" religion is right, but is not right for everyone.
Jamie826 05-22-2008, 10:01 PM I honestly don't know what I believe anymore when it comes to my religion, my philosophy class definitely got me thinking differently than I had before.. :dunno No matter what my beliefs are, I do not believe that someone is "wrong" for thinking differently or for having a different belief system than me. < Sorry it's kind of worded weird, so it's unclear sorry it makes sense in my brain :)

*MedicsHeart* 05-22-2008, 10:29 PM i'm gonna be honest, for me i feel like my religion is right and others are wrong.
Everything just makes sense to me, not necessarily saying that other religions dont but i just have that feeling in my heart that my religion is indeed the only right religion.
OneSailorsGirl25 05-22-2008, 10:31 PM My personal belief is that no one religion is 100% right and no one religion is 100% wrong. The people within these religions believe their teachings, and that is what matters. I think that only closed minded people could say that there is only one right way to worship, and everyone else is wrong. I think that spirituality is a personal thing, and if the way a person does it makes them feel closer to whichever diety he/she believes in, then they are doing it the right way for them, regardless of what another person believes or feels about it.
Wicked 05-23-2008, 11:16 AM I am Atheist. To avoid the the risk of offending people I will leave it at that. :lol
Astra 05-23-2008, 12:49 PM im pagan.i belive its the right one for me it may or may not be for everyone but thats ok.to each their own.just dont force your beliefs on me and s'all good :P
i did use to think when i was younger that maybe there was only one god he/she just went by many different names which got me grilled so bad by my dad lol.
parents 05-24-2008, 03:52 PM I don't believe "religion" is right.
This is me too.
I respect everyone's beliefs and understand where they are coming from. However, I have problems w/ organized religions esp those who excommunicate homosexuals.... that is straight up wrong. I believe in God... I just think sometimes his 'messengers' suck.

Theres a bumpersticker that always makes me laugh. It says something to the effect of "Jesus is an alright guy, its his followers who are assholes". No offense to anyone here, its just a bumpersticker, and it made me laugh.
That said, my dad is a preacher, religion was crammed down my throat at every avenue. I know a lot about the bible, about religion, about Jesus, and something just seems a little fishy to me. I mean, especially people who take the bible word for word. Overzealous, anyone?
I have come to the conclusion that I like to believe that whatever YOU think will happen to you post-life, IS what will happen to you. Me? Well, if I excel enough in this lifetime, and learn the lessons I need to to become a better person, then I will move on to the next step. Human again? Maybe. A tree? If I'm lucky. Etc.
But, to each your own. I will never be a part of organized religion ever again, though. I have some very strong very deep rooted feelings about that.
Shannon Marie 05-24-2008, 10:35 PM Hmmm. Good question.
I'm Catholic. I believe in some things and not others. Some have told me that that that makes me not a true Catholic. I don't know.
My stance is that you should belive what makes YOU feel good. As long as you aren't hurting others I really don't see the problem.
I respect all religions. I am very interested in Hindu and Buddhism and such. I like to take ideals from each and kind of make my own thought.
:dunno
I have a lot of faith, but when it comes to actual religion i'm a bitch sketchy.

That is a very funny typo.
ChewiesBaby 05-24-2008, 10:51 PM I don't believe "religion" is right.
when you give "man" too much authority over others (power) things just seem to go downhill from there in most cases...
To me, religion is like an opinion: no one's right and no one's wrong :)
exactly... I tend to agree with this, "the Kingdom of God is inside you, and all around you, not in mansions of wood and stone. Split a piece of wood... and I am there, lift a stone... and you will find me."
BAMF Army Wife 05-24-2008, 11:36 PM i'm gonna be honest, for me i feel like my religion is right and others are wrong.

I agree with this statement.
fridayheather 05-24-2008, 11:55 PM I think specific religions are "right" for specific people if that's what they choose to believe but I don't think that there are any "wrong" religions because they are all based on personal beliefs and that would be like saying someone's beliefs are wrong.
And to me, by saying a religion is "wrong" because *I* don't believe in it means that all the believers in that religion are destined to purgatory or something other than the heaven that they believe in, if that makes sense. Who am I to tell another person that they will not go to their idea of heaven, nirvana, the afterlife, whatever, simply because it is not what *I* believe in?
Cassaundra 05-25-2008, 12:06 AM well i think this question is a bit screwy for me. OF COURSE people are going to think their "religion" is right! It's why it's THEIR "religion". For me, I have seen too much and been through too much to think there is nothing specfic out there. A Christian comedian named Mark Lowery said it best for me: "I would be an Atheist too if I had that much faith." That is the problem for me: I don't have faith that something came from nothing. Maybe in some people's eyes that makes me stupid or ignorant. But I am a Christian and nothing can happen to me that will make me renounce that. So I do agree with Snarphblat and Flang18 and medicswifey....sorry guys, i am HORRIBLE with remembering names! But the way I look at religion is it is all based on SOME type of faith in something or some belief. So you really will not know until you are dead.
DakotaCowgirl 05-25-2008, 10:33 AM I agree with Becca on this one.
Religion is something I don't take part of. My Faith is where I stand. I have faith that Jesus died on the cross and rose again for my sins.
When someone is obessed or overzealous about the "religion" part, where that part is the only way i.e. traditions, organization, ect, then there is a problem. I'm obsessed with God not the religion. I know the difference it made in my life and I would share but I know there are those out there that will condemn, redicule, and obnoxiously tease because I'm a Christian. Doesn't change who I am but makes me a bit more careful who I talk too.
