Has anyone gone camping anywhere near San Diego? We are looking for someplace with a lake that you can actually swim in. We really don't want to drive more then a couple of hours to get there. We want to go sometime next month, but haven't had much luck finding a good place. TIA!

Try lake cuyamaca used to go there as a kid. Theres also Mt Laguna, The beach parks up near Carlsbad area, theres a beach camp ground down in imperial, or Agua Caliente. Theres Glamis but no lake there.

Oh and don't forget about Lake Jennings either

La Jolla Indian Reservation in North San Diego. I went there a few times for weekend retreats in college, they have a really fun river that you can tobogan down! Back then it was like 15$ a night per car or something like that. I'm sure you can look it up and find out.
