View Full Version : Tudors
Green~Mammy 05-23-2008, 12:39 AM I am just watching episode 19 I am so upset about poor Mark Sweetin, it made me cry what they did to them. I swear I don't know that I will ever like Jon Rhys Myers in anything after watching him play Henry. The true victims are the women and people like Sweetin. Evil evil man Henry the 8th was!
andrews_wifey 05-23-2008, 12:41 AM I HATE that i dont have showtime. ahhhhh i love this story!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Green~Mammy 05-23-2008, 12:45 AM It is so good but this episode is really making me cry. Lady Rocheford (Anne B's SIL) the stupid twit doesn't see it coming BUT in the not so distant future their is an axe that bears her name. (I really don't like her)
I also find it amusing that the Jesuit priest was accused on sleeping with the queen which plays into his hands because he can say yes he did and seal her fate. (he is an assain SP?)
andrews_wifey 05-23-2008, 12:47 AM Did Lady Rocheford get her head wacked? I know she snitches and seals Anne and her brother's fate...I don't like her either...

No, she is the one that said Anne Boylen and her brother (her husband) were lovers she loses her head when the king kills his child bride the little Catherine Howard. She is two brides down next up is Jane Seymour and Anne of Cleves.
The reason she loses her head is because she was helping to sneak Catherine's lover into her chambers. They were trying to get Catherine Parr pregnant since Henry was no longer up to the task. See the only thing about this show that bothers me is that the king was already getting chubby by Anne's death and by the time Jane dies positively rotund.
andrews_wifey 05-23-2008, 12:54 AM Ahhh gotcha
I just finished reading 'The other Bolyen Girl" and am now reading 'The Constant Princess'(which is the story of Queen before Anne Bolyen) I so love this time period and everything!
Green~Mammy 05-23-2008, 01:04 AM I have read both of those (I have read all of whats her buckets books and some other authors as well the time period is a very lively one) Catherine of Arragon was his first wife.
In the show Tudors they blended both of Henry's sisters into one charecter and they killed her off very early and had brandon marry his ward which is not what happened because Brandon married Princess Mary (Henry's sister not his daughter) secretly and they were not allowed to come back to England (from France Mary had been married to the elderly French King in real life) for a while.
When they came back they had children and they were married a very long time until she passed away. Their grand daughter was the unfortunate Lady Jane Grey who was Queen of England for only 8 days. (after Henry's death and then the death of his only living son Edward)
andrews_wifey 05-23-2008, 01:09 AM Wow, I have alot to catch up with then. Thanks so much for filling me in. Yeah..in the book I'm reading, Katherine of Aragon has just met King Henery the VIII(as a young boy of course he's not yet King is what I meant) I also have the book about Queen Elizabeth the I as well. I started reading that then found the book on Katherine and decided to try reading in order so to speak.
Green~Mammy 05-23-2008, 01:15 AM Queen Elizabeth the 1st was a fantastic leader. I love her life story. Have you watched both the movies Elizabeth and Elizabeth the Golden Age?
andrews_wifey 05-23-2008, 01:18 AM :-( No I haven't I had no idea they went with this story. Shows how slow I am LOL. But I WILL be renting them soon! Do you know if they have TUDORS on DVD to rent?

andrews_wifey 05-23-2008, 01:24 AM Awsome! I know what the rest of my week will look like! What a weekend! hehe.
btw- I have enjoyed chatting with you about this. I ADORED the book and movie of 'The other Bolyen Girl'. It's what got me intrested in the whole she-bang to begin with! I didn't even know 'TUDORS' even existed until I ran across it in Target the other day.
Green~Mammy 05-23-2008, 01:28 AM I sadly have not seen the Boylen movie yet i really want to though. Nice to meet another Tudor time period junky!

Yeah I plan to buy the movie. DH took me to see it on my bday. It was pretty awsome. I love Natalie Portman. She made a great Anne Bolyen! It was funny. She has this one scene in the movie where she's MASSIVELY flirting with King Henery and she has this one scene in it and afterwards I leaned and wispered to DH..."holy cow, that was hot I would have jumped her" :rofl (I'm totally a man-lover) but that's how good it was. :giggle

I'm glad I'm not the only one that was about to cry for poor Smeaton. That whole thing just turned my stomach and broke my heart for him.

I was just thinking about his weight while I was watching episode 19. I mean its hard to hate him as much as I would because he is just so hot. At one point there was a minute where he looked like maybe they were going to have him gain weight but I think it was just his clothes or the camera angle. If they made him as fat and ugly as Henry really was I'd have to stop watching :P
As for Anne's SIL - she is very manipulative but I can't help but feel bad for her. As cute as Anne's brother is (ok - so I have a crush on the entire male cast) he was a total creep, just like her dad. I couldn't stand him and I can totally see her motivation.
Is anyone else not a big fan of Jane? I'm not sure she is going to be as interesting to watch as Anne was.
andrews_wifey 05-23-2008, 02:50 AM I didn't know alot about Jane. I totally need to call COX(our cable provider) and get showtime :rofl
pennylayne 05-23-2008, 03:01 AM I can't stand lady Rocheford I always want to call her "lady crochford" she is such witch, but you might be oo if your husband ass raped you on your wedding night, and then foresook your bed for a man. I don't know, Anne kinda had it comming, but as evil as henry can be, My heart ached for him when he was crying becuase he thought she had screwed 100 other men. I think he really loved her, he go tired of her shannanagins but he loved her, and he loved his daughers.

I didn't feel bad for him he was just looking for an excuse to get rid of her so he could marry Jane. Brandon is just about the only stand up guy that is close to him (he was in real life as well a very decent person) as much as he hated Anne for what she did to Catherine even HE was disgusted with the way Anne was used as a pawn.
His (Henry's) actions where so selfish and he hurt his country very very much through out his entire rule. Not only did his actions hurt his country while he was living BUT they continued with Queen Mary I and because she so desperately wanted to be loved (married and with child) she had poor little Lady Jane killed to insure that her Spanish prince would come and marry her (had to do with Lady Jane being the figure head for the Protestants and Queen Mary wanted Catholic rule in England). She brought the inquisition full force into her country by marrying him as well. Her rule was a very dark time period as well. Thankfully with Elizabeth I came reason.
I could maybe over look his treatment of his wives but the way he treated his poor children was disgusting.
It is easier to like him when he is handsome like John Rhys Myers though LOL, though by all accounts Henry WAS a handsome man when he was young and before his leg wound made it very hard for him to get any exercise.
The other thing is he NEVER doubted Elizabeth was his child like they show in the TV series. The reason being Elizabeth was the spitting iamge of her father in female form. right down to the Tudor red hair she had.
I feel bad for Anne because honestly while she was a very bright young woman she was a woman and as such a pawn. She could follow along with her families plans for her or be banished. The only thing she could of done differently is learn to play into Henry's huge ego and learn to not say every thought that enters her head. Although again those are some of the reasons he fell in love with her because she had such interesting thoughts. Unfortunately for her he was very fickle and obsessed with having a male child. The reason being the last queen of England had been a disaster.
He also refused to ever accept any responsibility for any of his actions, everything was always someone else's fault. Given the intrigues it is a wonder any of his wives survived him. Anne of Cleves is my favorite of his brides. I look forward to seeing if the tell just WHY he hated her so.
She wounded his fat stinky old pride by spitting on him and slapping him when he came to see her for the first time in disguise. Unfortunately no one told her that he liked to disguise himself. He was fat, dirty, drunk, and smelly, she thought he was a commoner assaulting her person. He never got over seeing himself how he truly was in her eyes. The fact that she not only kept her head but also got her own lands out of it tells me she was a very smart woman.
Because England had just been through a terrible civil war that Henry's father had ended the noblemen were desperate to avoid another civil war so instead they always told Henry just exactly what Henry wanted to hear and allowed a complete and total terror to rule. Then combine that with everyone whispering lies and feeding into his paranoia and you have absolute chaos. Which was no doubt a result of his first head injury, sometimes head injuries can cause personality changes, his personality changed a lot after his accident. He went from being an excitable person to having sick spells, mood swings, and out of control tempers.
They actually did not go into the whole Lady Rotcheford bit very much. She actually was bitterly jealous not just of her husbands lover but also of Anne and her husbands relationship. Although to be fair to HER she was told that if she accused them that her husbands life would be spared because what they didn't show in the series is that she was very very much in love with him.
pennylayne 05-23-2008, 03:51 AM damn girl your good! Im a period nerd too, but Im a revelotionary junkie, and Im pretty good with biblical archeology.
pennylayne 05-23-2008, 03:53 AM I sadly have not seen the Boylen movie yet i really want to though. Nice to meet another Tudor time period junky!
You won't like it, you know too much fo the real story, and the movie is a far cry from what really happened. it was a good movie for just being a movie, but the historial parts were really not very well done.
andrews_wifey 05-23-2008, 03:56 AM You ARE good! I'll have to keep coming back here and reading up. lol. I have so much catching up to do!
andrews_wifey 05-23-2008, 03:57 AM Yeah I thought it was a good movie. A great movie. But you know so much more about the real story so you might not enjoy it as much...It's worth a look though.
Green~Mammy 05-23-2008, 11:11 AM I liked the book though, I don't expect it to be true to form I also like the pretty clothes LOL
airmanssweetie 05-23-2008, 11:35 AM I love the tudors man.. i'm sad that theres only one episode left (yay for on demand for being 1 episode ahead LOL).
Green-mammy- that was very interesting to read! You should write some more bc i haven't done any research or anything but it's looking like i will once i get some time to sit without being interuppted :)
Oh and you wont see Jonathan Rhys Meyers getting fat as Henry(unless they put a fat suit on him). He gained 14lbs for the role and told the producers he wasn't gaining anymore than that.
