What are your plans??? Parade? BBQ?

A while back our little town decided to put up a Veteran's Memorial. You could buy a brick and have the servicemember's name/rank/service/dates of service put on it. I bought one for DH.

When he was home on R&R and was interviewed by our little local paper they took him to the memorial and he saw his brick I purchased. He was very thankful BUT asked me why I hadn't boughten myself one. Told him I was no hero, only served my 4 years. He got upset and bought me one to be placed next to his. He said I was his hero :wub

SO...long story short; Monday they are dedicating the Memorial and all the bricks have now been permanently placed in mortar as a sidewalk leading to the memorial. DH specifically asked me to go....so I'll be there!!

Sounds like you will have a wonderful day

We will be at the American Cemetary at Madingley outside Cambridge ...
Last year we went even if we had torrential rain.... I remember an 85 year old veteran who stood for 2 hours holding the US flag high whilst being soaked to the skin....He was a true Hero standing straight, showing such pride on his face....

ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- "IN PROUD AND GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THOSE MEN OF THE UNITED STATES ARMY AIR FORCE WHO FROM THESE FRIENDLY ISLES FLEW THEIR FINAL FLIGHT AND MET THEIR GOD. THEY KNEW NOT THE HOUR THE DAY NOT THE MANNER OF THEIR PASSING. WHEN FAR FROM HOME THEY WERE CALLED TO JOIN THAT HEROIC BAND OF AIRMEN WHO HAD GONE BEFORE. MAY THEY REST IN PEACE."

These are the poignant words written in mosaic on the ceiling of the chapel in the cemetery that is called by American aviators, Madingley. Memorial Day in England has been held at this site since 1944 when the fathers of the modern Air Force came to pay homage to that "Heroic Band of Airmen" who had gone before.

This morning we participated in flag placement at the Veteran's cemetary in Biloxi. We attended as a cub scout pack. Then we attended a b-day party. Tomorrow is church then off to a BBQ with friends down the street. Memorial day itself we are going to the beach, to the local Vietnam memorial, and then Anna has a game at 6. Oh I forgot to mention I'm sleeping in on Monday morning! :cp I haven't done that in weeks!
