View Full Version : Amby baby
Loretta 05-25-2008, 05:56 PM We are REALLY considering this.... My niece sleeps like well, a baby in hers and I love how space-saving and really womb-like it is.
Have any of you used this? Love it/hate it?
(ETA-I know there was an iswsue with a malfunction a few months ago but the new beds will be on the market June 1st.)

Germanchick 05-25-2008, 06:32 PM I remember someone making a post about those beds quiet some time ago. Don't remember who though nor what people thought of it.
MIKOSWIFEY 05-25-2008, 06:36 PM :thinking Interesting. I definitely wouldn't pay $300 for that though. Maybe if it was cheaper it would be worth it, but babies grow so fast it seems like a waste of money to me.
sandykay 05-25-2008, 06:40 PM I just have a cradle and one of those positioner things with an incline in it. I think it would work just as well
Steph* 05-25-2008, 06:40 PM A friend of mine has it and loves it. I think it's a neat idea, if we didn't co-sleep I might be interested.

You can purchase a big spring to use with it which extends the weight maximum to 40lbs. That's the main reason I like it-by the time they are too big for it, we'll be buying a toddler bed. :lol
That's me, Steph-I can't cosleep, too dangerous. I literally sleep too soundly and have rolled over and killed a kitten(I was little but still traumatized) and even now I will roll over DH and straight off the bed. I must be a nightmare to sleep next to:rofl
Caimbrie 05-25-2008, 06:48 PM I'd love one... but Tony doens't see paying that much for something that doesn't get used for long.
Babies R Us has something similar.

Loretta 05-25-2008, 06:50 PM That one can only last till 6 months, though...I like the Amby for the lifespan.
Maybe I am being unreasonable?:thinking I don't know. I was really planning on skipping the crib altogether with this, which justifies the price for me....
Now y'all have me thinking. :puzz

Have you thought about one of these? They attach to the side of the bed. That's what I'll be using.

Steph* 05-25-2008, 06:54 PM It's really not that expensive. If you were buying a crib it would be around the same price. The Amby goes up to 35-40 pounds I think, you'd get plenty of use out of it. :)
sandykay 05-25-2008, 06:54 PM once the baby starts rolling and crawling, they'll be able to get out of it :shrug

I know for me, once my kids could roll over that wouldn't work.
But splurge wherever you want! It's your baby :) I splurged on things people thought werent needed or worth it. it's YOUR money and YOUR kid. Get what you want to have!
Loretta 05-25-2008, 06:57 PM The package I was looking at includes a really soft and cushy five point harness:lol No getting out for my baby!
Thanks, Sarah. I know it's ok to splurge...but it goes against my nature. I will pay more for quality, but since I don't have any experience with it I'm hesitant, I guess that's why I posted the thread.

I went back and forth about a few things myself, that included.. but with everything else we got, Tony didn't see us spending money on that also :lol
MIKOSWIFEY 05-25-2008, 07:00 PM I wonder if you could find one assembled at a shop near you? Then you could go look and see if it's worth the trouble. It's hard to tell from a picture even with the description, you know?
I would worry about keeping a kid in one until they're on to a toddler bed because if they're used to rocking to sleep and sleeping at an incline, they aren't going to be able to fall asleep on a boring old flat stationary bed. You know? It just wouldn't work for us, personally.
Loretta 05-25-2008, 07:04 PM Good point, Schaele. :yes I'll be checking around to see if I can find a local seller. :five
PrincessBlue505 05-25-2008, 09:40 PM I wanted one of those but found out about them after we'd already bought our co-sleeper (the one that attaches to the side of the bed).
Did you know there's an attachment to replace the sleeping area and turn it into a jumperoo type thing when they're too old for sleeping in it? I was excited about that feature.
Sadly, though, we kept our co-sleeper so DH won't let me get the amby for our next baby either. :(
instant_oatmeal 05-25-2008, 09:47 PM I think its a cool idea but we have a crib and a cosleeper so I dont really need it.
browneyedbeauty 05-25-2008, 09:54 PM I love the idea of it and will totally buy one whenever I get knocked up. (Not soon though.)
I think with the harness and the ability to make it into a jumper you'll get your money's worth.
Heather 05-25-2008, 09:57 PM I think the idea is cool but I think its something the baby will outgrow early on even with a 40 pound weight limit and a 5 point harness. I know with both of my kids they liked to roll around once they got a bit older maybe around 5-6 months. I doubt a baby will sleep well strapped into their bed. JMO though.
angies367 05-25-2008, 10:05 PM I think initially it seems like a good idea, being similar to smallness and warmth of a womb, but in the long run I think it wouldn't be beneficial to the child. I would suggest getting some extra padding or a boppy pillow to help secure your baby, but moving straight from this tight enclosed sleeping area to a fairly large bed, the kid might not sleep well. I would personally get kind of freaked out. I mean, as an adult, I would think it was the best thing since sliced bread to have an actual bed, but as a kid, I'd be scared shitless. I think cribs help regulate the changes a little bit. Does this make sense?
Mommy2Bailey 05-26-2008, 12:20 AM So would you have to strap the baby down to sleep once the baby could move and roll over?
MIKOSWIFEY 05-26-2008, 12:30 AM So would you have to strap the baby down to sleep once the baby could move and roll over?
:thinking I didnt notice that. Kind of dangerous sounding, and probably very uncomfortable. I know my kid never liked to be strapped in even in a carseat. Good point Lissa.
thejibstah 05-26-2008, 12:44 AM I slept in something similar as a baby. My mom made her own though.
I agree with the others though that have said go for it if you want to!
Mrs.Highfill 05-26-2008, 12:45 AM I want one of those sooooo bad!!
cceribit 05-26-2008, 12:56 AM I wouldn't want to be strapped into a 5 point when I went to sleep. :( Although it would be safe and all it sounds very constricting to me. And not all that 'comfy' to learn how to sleep.
i wanted one for ellie but we co slept hehe
they look AWESOME!!
Berkley 05-26-2008, 09:35 AM I think that if you like it then you should get it. People have been using them for years and alot of people love it. So if you like it then go for it.
Kaymara 05-26-2008, 09:39 AM I posted about em. And IF I had known about them I woulda SOOOOO bought one. My kids slept best in the swing with motion and the smaller area. I think they woulda slept so much better in this thing. I always tell people about it. I would even sleep in it if I could fit :lol
Cassaundra 05-26-2008, 09:43 AM i like it. i wish i would have known about it when isaac was born. i think that if a baby starts in that, he/she will learn to sleep in it. Just like co-sleeping and sleeping alone. But my 2 yo isn't 30 lbs yet and he sleeps in a big boy bed be/c he was getting out of the crib. so I don't think it is realistic to think a 2 yo would sleep in there. But it is perfect for baby!
