So dh called me tonight. He asked me how i'd feel about moving to Ft Bragg. Can anyone who's lived there tell me what it's like...schools, weather, housing, etc....

What are your favorite bases?? And least favorite bases??

We'r stationed at pope, which is right with bragg. The weather is nice.. dunno about the schools... um.. Dh has told me there is ALOT of crime here in fayetteville, but i don't watch the news so i dunno. Not sure about braggs housing but from the outside, it looks alright. There are some nice apts here and houses, depending on the area- which is the norm for anywhere. I don't really mind it here and am actually sad to be leaving in Sept but that's bc i have some awesome friends here :-)

DB lived there for almost 9 years and loved it. He's a single Dad and found the schools to be very helpful and understanding of the military lifestyle. He had a single family home off base and said that housing in the area is quite affordable (as compared to here in MD). Good luck in your decision. :)

:hi I'm at Bragg. It's our first duty station, so I can't really compare it to other posts except Bliss, which I've visited twice. It's a VERY military-supportive town and surrounding area due to the big military population here (both Army and AF). The area isn't too bad, when you get used to it. No kiddos for me, so I can't say anything about the schools... except there are a TON of them here. Holy smokes.

If you have any specific questions, let me know. There's a lot of housing options around here, be it on-post or off.

Oh and the weather is AMAZING. My favorite part.

I am not a big fan of Fayetteville itself but just outside there are a lot of nice places. DB likes being stationed here (though he would like to be closer to family- one of the reasons I (L) it here is that we are not!) and this is his second time. We are hoping to be here for a while. The weather is just about typical for the southeast- cold, wet winters; polleny, humid fluxuating springs & falls and hot as hell summers with a lot of tornadoes & thunderstorms. But the beach is two hours away (and close enough you don't need a pass), the mountains are two hours the other way and there are a lot of great state parks nearby so the weather is just something you have to learn to take advantage of!

We were planning a move to Bragg and my sister has lived there for like 10 years. The schools leave a little to be desired and from what my sister AND the realtor told us - Jack Britt school district is the one to try to get into. The weather is apparantly nice and housing is affordable. Friends of mine that used to live there said there housing was nice - had hardwood floors, etc. I think you can see pics on onestoparmy.com

My DB has been here for 3 months. And he hates it. I have been here for 3weeks and so far not too bad. The locals are rude and the traffic is horrible. Housing is nice and afordable. weather is beautiful. Just make sure you live in an area that's mostly military, that way you can meet people who realate and will have kids as well. Downtown is nice, but small. The bass is huge! Not sure about schools b/c we dont have any kids. Good luck!

We were there 4.5 years, lived towards Sanford (we own our house actually) and loved it and miss it. Fayetteville is called Fayette-nam for a reason, so either opt for housing (which most is new and nice) or head to places like, Cameron, Sanford, Lillington, Raeford or Holly Springs to live. Most schools are rated well on greatschools.com however you need to do your research b/c of overcrowding even though there's oodles, there just aren't enough. And with BRAC movements it's going to get worse. The weather is awesome IMO. I'm from NY and I would never complain b/c any amount of sun is a bonus. There's tons to do in and around Bragg, you just have to be open to finding it. Butterfly zoo, a zoo, a children's science "Explore center", floral park with nature walks, AB museum, mountains 2 hours west, punkin patches (halloween) strawberry fields, the beach 2 hrs east, Jordan lake less than an hour away. Raleigh with everything an hour north... you just have to explore.

I live right in Fayetteville.. like right of Raeford.. I don't like it cause it seems like deployment rates are a lil higher here, but it could be me. The weather is nice (I'm guessing cause I'm originally from WV so it's pretty much the same except WV doesn't get the huge heat wave like in August.. matters what you're used to), the area has some stuff to do, the traffic is a madhouse and it's like no one knows where they are going, the crime rate varies place to place.. the Realtor can give you a website actually and find out how bad it is in areas... I can't remember what it is or I'd give it.. for me being right off Raeford with housing.. it's very quiet here.. Fayettenam is an ok place... but I think I'd rather us go back to Alaska :(

We have been here since December 2001. The mall is small, but has what you need. If you need anythign bigger, Raleigh is about an hour away depending on what side of base you live on. We have lived on almost everyside of base and now live on Pope. I was in the Air Force and he is in the Army so it works out for us. One of the pains in the butt is if you live or want to go on Pope, you have to have your ID checked AGAIN. deosn't make sence since there is a BCT less than a mile out of the main Pope gate, Delta is right down the road, and SF is the opposite way, about 5 miles down. *steps off soap box*
Traffics is pretty bad when all the units are home. Rigth before everyone left, it would take at least an hour or more to get through the Bragg gates during rush hour. We have rent a cops on the Bragg gates and AF cops on the Pope gate. ummm...if you have any specific questions drop me a line.
