DB is PCSing to Ft. Jackson at the end of this summer and neither of us know anything about SC or the Columbia area!!

I want to know what areas are good to live in but also what are the areas to avoid.

He is willing to commute to the post but doesn't want to be stuck in awful Columbia traffic everyday.

We don't have kids and are still young (24 and 25) so we like to go out and party! Any ideas on where to go!? Any good places to live in those areas?

If anyone knows anything about the area (at all), your help would be greatly appreciated!!! :D

I went to school at USC (for a semester)...I lived in a dorm, so I can't really help out with places to live...But Five Points is an area that is just a bunch of bars/ clubs (wasn't old enough to go, but that's what everyone talked about!!) I LOVE Columbia, though! Have fun!!

I live in the Rosewood area, which is about a 7 minute drive from the base when there is no traffic. It's right in downtown and very close to everything. It's hard to say about what areas to 'avoid' because Columbia is very hit and miss about good places to live. All I can really say is to avoid the Two Notch Road area :D

I've lived in the Columbia area for all 20 years of my existence. I love it here! My family lives in the West Columbia area which is about 20 minutes or so from downtown Columbia. Columbia isn't the best place to be at night alone because there are lots of homeless people walking around. Five Points is definitely the place to be for night life and it's right outside of downtown Columbia! Lots of bars and clubs!

My dad works down the street from one of the entrances to Ft. Jackson (the one right off of I-77) and there are neighborhoods around that area where you wouldn't have to worry about Columbia traffic.
