View Full Version : not liking sleeping alone
little.lili 05-29-2008, 09:45 AM Last night I kept looking for DH's hand under the covers... Until I looked so hard I woke up and had a reality check... The pillow definitely wasn't him :sigh
I dont understand why I'm having such a hard time with this... I think I just settled in so well with him... We only had 3 real weeks in our new home.. b4 that he was gone a lot or I was gone... it was the only time we got to spend as a married couple... and now its over till he comes home :tired:tired:tired
oh well... I'm sure it will get better... One day less, right?
LoveKiss 05-29-2008, 10:12 AM Every day and night that passes brings you closer to him coming home. And you are not alone. Some nights and mornings, when I am in that twilight zone between consciousness and sleep, I could swear on my life that the weight of the blanket on my arm is actually his arm. It's totally screwy. But in those moments, he's with me and it's nice. And then reality sets in. :sigh

cheerkelly 05-29-2008, 10:16 AM I remember those days well. I also remember weird times when I couldn't "feel" him next to me...and those would freak me out even more!
Like ArmyE'sGirl said...every day and every night that passes brings you that much closer to him coming home. :)
Holly M. 05-29-2008, 10:52 AM Nights are the worse for me. I sleep with Build a bear he made me every night. If that bear (actually a monkey), falls off the bed I wake up. Its not him but it's as close as i'll get for now.
BrittanyJo 05-29-2008, 12:04 PM You will get used to it. I know that seems hard to imagine now but it will happen! :hugs

I cuddle with my build-a-bear too. The dreams where you think you can feel him next to you are the worst :(
It sucks, but you do adjust... and then you find yourself like me, sprawled in the middle of the bed with no room for anyone else! ;)
SemperWife 05-29-2008, 04:54 PM you will get used to sleeping alone again soon. I actually fall asleep quite well now, and stay asleep all night long. I am at 4 months today.

Absolutely. One day less and one more closer to June. Hang in there hun.
cgardner 05-29-2008, 08:35 PM For the longest time, (I say longest time, but he's only been gone a little over two months) I would wake up and have to remind myself that he wasn't there. I got the knot in my stomach and had to force myself out of bed. Now, making sure that pile of pillows is perfect isn't such a big deal. I don't get the knot in my stomach when i remember he's not there.
it DOES get easier. i didn't believe it the first 6 weeks. even though i've been through a deployment before, i couldn't find it in my head to believe that things would get easier, but they have. Hang in there!!!
Just like all the other ladies say, every day you wake up is one day closer to seeing him again.
CJSmith 05-29-2008, 08:46 PM When my DH first left I stayed off to my side of the bed, and over the past 6 months I've slowly crept back into the middle... then sprawled diagonally across the whole bed. I don't think he's going to have room to sleep when he does get back! I don't know if I'm weird, but I kinda like when I have dreams that he's there. It's like I get to spend a little time with him, even though it's not for real. :screwy Idk.
Fidzy 05-29-2008, 08:49 PM You will get used to it. I know that seems hard to imagine now but it will happen! :hugs
:yes Yep. Luckily I've had a dog to help snuggle me at night. She's actually terrible at it, but it helps me feel like I'm not alone. Spraying cologne on pillows can either make things better or worse, depending on the person. Get lots of pillows either way! :D
you're right! one day less.
it will get better hun! I promise.
USNIwife 05-29-2008, 11:17 PM one day lesss....right! one day less. I miss my sleepie DH by me too :sadeyes I know how you feel. PM if you ever wanna chat. :bouquet
LuvinFloyd 05-30-2008, 09:12 PM I miss my dh next to me too. I haven't really got used to it yet, but I'm improving. I sprayed his cologne on my bear and smell it every night before I go to sleep. It helps me dream nice dreams.
little.lili 05-30-2008, 09:43 PM aww I hadn't seen all these replies!!
thank you :) and I know I'm not alone.... I guess its just hard when you have one of those nights...
powe101 05-31-2008, 03:29 AM Finally took about 5 months but I'm able to fall asleep now and stay asleep. I ended up getting a pillow case (wal-mart photo center) huge picture of my DH... so I go to bed clutching my pillow with his pic on it... all night long! Helps me sleep...and I sleep on his side of the bed. Crazy too cause before I would be all over the bed...now I say just on his side... lol...
It takes some time but you'll adjust!!!!!
