Start planning ahead. Even if plans change, at least you will feel semi-confident knowing that things are good to go. You can always cancel reservations. We just went through a OCONUS to OCONUS move and it was fairly stressful because it was my first one :nutts. Once the movers came and packed us out, we moved into a hotel.
1. Our pov shipped out 4 weeks before we left and it arrived 2 days after we got into HI. Small miracle! We had a rental car in the meantime.
2. If you have pets (cats, dogs, rodents), I can't stress enough to get their papers in order. Here's a link about animal quarantine.
http://hawaii.gov/hdoa/ai/aqs/info Call the airlines and see what their policies are about shipping pets. Some have goofy regulations.
3. Call the Hale Koa today and book a room. They fill up quickly. Here's a link:

Lastly, take a deep breath. I made it here with most of my hair intact :lol.
Lots of the ladies on this site have done HI tours, so feel free to ask.

You can also get housing in any of the other bases too, I know hickam and pearl harbor accept people from other branches move into their housing.

Thanks everyone for the info. I am gonna definitley look into housing on Schofield because i have heard some of the housing on Wheeler is so icky , they give you back some of your BAH.
How are gas prices there and does your COLA that you recieve really help to offset some of your cost. I am just worried in the even that we dont get housing. Right now I can see the commissary from my house here onpost and the thought of getting put in housing far from the base kinda freaks me out alittle.
Any other info you can think of feel free to throw it on me , im all ears.
Thanks :)

Not in Hawaii now, but lived there. You will probably want to stay at The Inn on Schofield, because if you don't have your car yet, it will be easier for you to get around from there, not from the Hale Koa. You can always go downtown to site see later.
Schofield/Wheeler is actually a pretty convienent part of the island, central to getting to the North Shore or down to Waikiki pretty quick. I didn't go to the base out there a lot, but it sure has improved a lot over the years with newer housing.
