View Full Version : Can I post pics of him on the ship??
Dr. K 05-29-2008, 05:21 PM My fiance just emailed me some pics of himself on the ship while he's deployed. Am I allowed to post these pics on facebook so our mutual friends can see him and what he's been up to? Or does this violate OPSEC?
Thanks
AllyssaM 05-29-2008, 05:27 PM I am almost 100% sure you can. I see them on MySpace all the time, and I've posted them a few times myself.
flangl18 05-29-2008, 05:27 PM You can post them. He is just not allowed to take pictures of certain areas of the ship.

Ok, well if he had someone else take the pics of him, I'm hoping they are of ok areas. I just wanted to check before I did it so that I didn't get in trouble or do anything wrong. Thanks.
Debra 05-29-2008, 05:29 PM Can't wait to see them! :tu
brentscrystal 05-29-2008, 05:29 PM I would say it would depend on what df's job is... as long as there is nothing that is TS, I don't think it would be a problem. It probably shouldn't show the ship's location either.
SemperWife 05-29-2008, 05:30 PM you can post them ONLY if there is no identifying information about the ship and its location in them.

one good thing to go by as well, when it comes to OPSEC, if you are not sure... just Don't. It is better to be safe than sorry.
Dr. K 05-29-2008, 05:32 PM you can post them ONLY if there is no identifying information about the ship and its location in them.
So if he's in his blue coveralls with his ship's name on it, then you can't post them???

Well doesn't look like I'm allowed to post them now. :(
OMG it's Andrea! 05-29-2008, 05:34 PM So if he's in his blue coveralls with his ship's name on it, then you can't post them???
Yes you can. :yes Just can't be anything that would give away the ship's location, and that wouldn't :D
ETA: If you were worried about it, you could always just black it out :D
rosebud* 05-29-2008, 05:34 PM :shrug You could just blackout stuff. Is he on deployment? if not then i wouldn't worry about it too much. just white out his name and if you want the ships name.
rcwant2be 05-29-2008, 05:35 PM You could smudge out the ships name on the coveralls.
If they can't be posted, he shouldn't be sending them to you either since email isn't secure.
Ask him if its ok. Of all people, he should know.

I can blacken out or blur the identifying stuff in them if you'd like... PM me if you need me!

Well I don't know if they could be posted!!!!! That's why I was asking!!! We are both new to the military (he's only been in about 7 months) and this is his first deployment!! He had his tech buddies shrink down the pics for him so that he could email them.

my guess is that if other people saw them they are safe to post. unless he works in a TS area and took pics there or was taking pics of the nuke reactor. more then likely they are generic enough.

mackenziesmommy 05-29-2008, 06:04 PM if the pictures happen to have where they've been the last few days on them then no they can't be posted because it would be VERY easy to figure out where they are.
