I have never lived their as an adult but when I waas a kid my dad was stationed their for 4 years. I have always said that the best memories of my life were their. As a child I thin it was great BUT my milk was always provided.LOL

We've lived there twice. I enjoyed both of my times there. Yes, it was expensive but COLA helped and I shopped at the Commissary and Costco. Actually, we were able to save money each time we lived there.

We enjoyed our three years there. I'd love to go back but won't because of the schools and dh doesn't want to go back.

out in town maybe......on base not so much.

I don't think it is that expensive....sure some things are........but my friend in Cali pays more for gas........and her utilities are through the roof. You get COLA here. Most people in Hawaii make money that we know anyway.

I love Hawaii......we've been here since 1996

I think it depends on where you are in your life, do you have school age children, do you have children, do you enjoy the beach,etc.....all these things make it a different expierence for everyone.

For us, we have school age children and they HATE the schools here. Unfortunately we cannot afford to put 3 kids into private school. The weather is great, if you love the beach, then you will have it made. If you don't then you probably won't find much to do. I personally don't find it that exspensive here, but I have lived in Japan, CA, and Italy. It's all relative!

Every duty is an experience, and that is how I try to look at every place we have lived.

I don't care much for Hawaii myself. Whatever you do, do not buy a brand new car here. The drivers here are HORRIBLE!!!! I regret buying a brand new vehicle here, just for that fact that I've gotten into 3 accidents which were not my fault. I cannot wait to leave this island. I have met wonder friends here. It also gets expensive to fly back and forth to the mainland to visit relatives. My hubby hasn't seen his family since May 2005. They're not fortunate enough to fly themselves out to the island. Luckily my family is only a 5 hour flight away, therefore the fare isn't as pricey.
Just be prepared to leave behind Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, Kohl's, Olive Garden, etc. Eveytime I visit my family I visit all those places and more...LOL!!!
