My Dh graduates basic June 13th!!! (from Ft. Jackson)
I was just wondering if anyone can give me an idea of what to expect on family day & graduation day? On family day are they limited on where they can go on base?

How long does graduation last? Do they do a whole company at a time? My Dh is in A CO. 1st Platoon, so will he get finished pretty qucikly? About what time can he go on his off post pass?

Then the morning after graduation, do I just go back up there and sign him out to take him to his AIT location? What time will he be able to leave?

SORRY for all the questions! I just want to know what to expect.
Thanks!

Well, I don't think you can take him to his AIT, unless it's REALLY close to his current base. The way it worked for me was..

Family day he could only go like 30 miles off base. No restrictions onto where he could go, just as long as it was within 30 miles.

Graduation day, he graduated around 9, got about 10 minutes to say good bye and everything, then at 10 he was on a bus to the airport.

His AIT is really close...Ft. Gordon is about an hour & 1/2 drive from Ft. Jackson.
He said that I can sign him out and take him to AIT, I really hope that's true!

Hey my fiance just graduated from fort jackson. On family day there is a little talk and then they bring them out. Then they stay in formation and you go find them. Then they are allowed to go anywhere on base that day. You can hang out until 8:45 pm. Then on graduation, it is pretty short. Then you can go get your honey.
You can take them to AIT. But he needs to set that up. Tell him to talk to his drill sergeant about it. We brought my fiance to his AIT in Virginia. Hope this helps.

Does he get an off post pass after graduation? Or does he go on to AIT that day?

My fiance is in Fort Jackson too right now and his AIT is in Virginia, I heard we couldn't take them? Thats what their website says anyway.

Congrats on his graduation and have a blast!

well i am not sure since we took him right after graduation and drove him to ait. But i think that he will be granted an off post pass and will have to return by 9 if you don't drive him to ait.

Well we drove my fiance to AIT right after graduation. They just need to talk to their drill sergeants and get permission.

Ok, we plan on driving him to AIT, I just wasn't sure if if he had to go there graduation day or the next morning. Did you fiance check in at his AIT locatio, and then have to stay there or did he get to leave for a while?

I read on FT. Gordon's website that if family members bring you, you will be granted an off post pass until 2pm on sunday. I wish I knew if this is true or if there are kind of limitations on it.

I just want to be able to spend as much time with him as possible. And I am really hoping for some alone time with him, because our 5ht wedding anniversary is 2 weeks after graduation (28th) I wanna be able to celebrate the right way, lol.

We had to leave soon after we dropped him off. So I'm not sure. We spent some time on the base, but it probably depends on their rules at the base.

My husband graduated from Ft. Jackson last Friday. He had to stay on base for Family Day and be back to his platoon by 8:00. Right after graduation he signed out and I drove him to Ft. Lee in VA. He had to check in by 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and he tried to get a pass to stay out and they wouldn't let him. It kind of stinks because I have been here all weekend, but haven't been able to see him. I head back to FL tomorrow.

If he has been okayed to be transported to AIT by family, he will be given an report day and time with guidelines I think around graduation. Since my dh remained at ft. Jackson heres what we had to do: Once he checked in for in-processing on Saturday morning he had to attend a briefing. Then he was free to go anywhere within 50 miles of Ft. Jackson until Sunday at 5. If you are bringing your daughter there are a few nice parks.

Family day at Ft Jackson consist of hanging out on base. Must remain in uniform at all times. Its going to be REALLY hot there because its HOT there now. Today it was 90 degrees and the humidity could choke you. I go down every wknd to visit DH at AIT. But anyway. Family day is a bit boring but its time that you can spend with him. One cool thing you can do is go to the commisary get some cookout food and go to the Twin lakes and cookout. That is really nice. Also there's a bowling alley, and you can go shopping at the PX.

:edit

Mind you its that the Cadre (AIT drill Sargent) discretion if he will have a pass or not. My dh platoon was pretty good about getting his weekend pass. Also the people that were driven in with family also enjoyed the weekend after being processed.
