We are going to be PCSing to Hawaii soon. We are hoping to get into housing - which housing is good/bad? If we don't get into housing, where should we look at renting? Doc will be at Pearl. Any tips you can send my way would be very helpful!!!

I don't know a whole lot about housing here, but I'll tell ya what I can. My husband is stationed on Pearl Harbor also, we live in Hale Moku and he's able to walk to work, which is fantastic. The housing is alright- I can send pictures of it to you if you'd like. My friend is in the Pearl City Peninsula housing and I do like it better- the kitchen is a little smaller but the living room is huge, and it has wood floors. Well, it looks like wood. But, they do have to deal with more traffic to and from his work. Pearl Harbor is right in the middle of everything so I like our location better than theirs, even discounting the traffic. I know the new Radford housing is pretty nice- actually, almost all Navy housing is pretty nice, compared to what I've seen anyway. I guess it really just depends how long it takes to get in- the waiting lists vary quite a bit- and how close you want to be to base.

I'm all the way on the other side of the island so I can't help with the housing stuff. You'll love it here though! :hula

The housing is very nice there. All new for the most part. Depends on paygrade which one you can get. If you don't have kids there are some great places to rent as well though. I had a place in the city for a little over half my BAH but it would have been too small for kids.

they have alot of new housing in the pearl harbor area and are in the middle of construction. I'm over in Kailua and DH is Navy stationed on KBay. We love it here...

I have no idea what the wait lists are like, but I do know that alot of people moving to our base are being told to get housing in Pearl because our wait lists are so long.....

we're stationed at k-bay but living in pearl harbor housing b/c the wait list over on k-bay was too long. We're in Moanalua Terrace, its right by the NEX. We really like the housing here.

First off...there are several housing areas. How many bedrooms are you entitled to?! Areas are also segregated based on rank....

He's and E6 and we are entitled to a 3br. The housing office here told me the wait list is like 3 months long - even for Pearl. Ugh. I'm going to the Oversaes move class at FFSC in a couple weeks. Once Doc gets home this week we'll be able to really start the process with all of the official paperwork.

We are moving our dog too - and I have been really on top of making sure to get everything done to get her moved there without having to have her stay in QT at all. I have been working with the DoA to make sure we can do the direct release at the airport. I am really bummed, though. We were supposed to be moving with 2 of my dogs, but I just had to put one of them down, she developed a very fast moving cancer. We actually have 3, but I was only planing to bring 2 - because of the housing limits. Now that the one is gone, I don't have enough time to get the 3rd ready with the rabies titers done for him to go with us. Sucks that all of that stuff has to be done so far in advance - 120 days minumum.

If you're wanting to be w/in walking distance to the base, then I'd suggest Hale Moku. I'm pretty sure there are 3 bedrooms there.

Otherwise, I'd suggest the new Radford and new Catlin Park. :) Doris Miller(the ones with closed garages), Both are w/in 5 mins of the base!

There's also Ford Island(Kamehameha Loop), but for me the thought of having only way one in, one way out via bridge freaks me out. :giggle

Also Pearl City Peninsula, which is a few miles away from the base. On the worst day it could take over an hour getting there...on a good day, maybe 10 mins. :)

Hey all, I am moving there in Oct. I am unsure if DB and I will be getting a place together or not, so where about should I be looking for housing? I want to be close to Pearl Harbor and Downtown. Also, if DB is away when I arrive, what would be a good suggestion for transitioning until I find a roommate?

I think housing moves quickly, even if they tell you 3 months wait for everything. They are opening up more homes in Catlin Park so lots of people are shuffling around, plus lots of PCSing going on. I think my whole cul-de-sac is all new people!!

I live in Pearl City Peninsula and LOOOOOOOOOVE it but we are moving closer to the base in new Catlin Park. We are also E6 and rate 3 brs. 3 brs turn over fast and there are lots of them BTW! Good luck1
