Congrats! I can give you some Italy in general tips!

Roads tend to be smaller here, I suggest either bringing a small car(honda civic size) or buying one here. Be prepared for insurance to cost a lot-we pay 4K per year for both of us with immaculate records and DH is over 25. Internet phones are a must if you don't already have them, it saves us a small fortune in phone bills every month.

We are only a few hours from Aviano. We actually go out there a lot for our weekends cause the hotel is nice and cheap. DH has to go often for dr apt. for his sholder. he had surgery in feb and is having it again in august. It is really awesome here. I agree with Jennifer about the roads, but we have an expedition and get around great in it. I only wish we had a european car so we didnt stand out so much. Let me know if you have any specific questions, or send me a PM.

Congrats!!

here is a pic of the hotel on the base with the mountains.... I (L) it!!

It looks so pretty! I am super excited, so is DH since he really wanted to stay overseas and it was our #1 choice. :) Any hints on housing and are there jobs available on base for me? I'm already stir crazy here in Germany. What food is on base... Crossing fingers for a Chili's, its like my taste of home here in Germany... Anyways, can't wait!

I am no help with that housing and jobs... here in Vicenza we can only live in housing with dependents. As for jobs, I work at CDC here, but I am not sure about there.

Bad news, no chillies.... sorry. Just the usual tacobell, burgerking, anthonys, poppes and cinnabun.

Eewie... Guess we'll still have to hop to Germany every once in a while for a food fix, lol. Guess I'll get DH to look into housing in stuff, I know there is no on base housing. Thanks!

You're so lucky!

DH and I were supposed to go to the UK, but we got denied my medical clearance. I'm hoping we still get somewhere in Europe. Italy would be a dream!

That's awesome! What a pretty area!!

I lived in Sicily and I'm not sure if this applies to northern Italy or not but:

They don't queue (form a line) so be prepared to gently nudge your way up front
They pass in no passing zones
They speed excessively
They love vespas (scooters) and will ride them anywhere
They eat long late dinners
In Sicily they have riposo (like siesta?) from 1 to 4pm where most shops, etc are closed, not sure about the north
Italians dress nice (compared to americans LOL)
They smoke openly everywhere (not sure if they still do LOL)

These are supposed to be negatives but just part of life in Italy. We LOVED our tour there and would love to go back!
