So my husband and I are on month 5 of TTC. We have been married for almost 5 months now and been together for almost a year and half. I have endometriosis and have had a colposcopy done as well as a laproscopic sugery. We were told to try until Nov. If nothing by then, then I would have another lap done. If nothin within 6 months then we would have to see a fertility specialist and try in vitro.

I was wondering if anybody knew the odds of having just one baby via in vitro versus having twins or triplets. My cousin was abusing in her previous relationship before she got married and she had to have in vitro done and had twins. Two identical boys.

I told my husband that I wanted to try a little bit longer then do the lap and go from there before we to in vitro. I was just wondering if anybody knew the actual odds of how many babies you could have.

I actually know of one girl that I work with who did IVF.

They take I beleive 15 eggs out of you, it could more or less not too sure. And fertilize them, they choose the ones that are the strongest, usually 7 and from those 7 choose the best 2 or 3.

She chose to have 3 eggs implanted incase the other two dropped out. She ended up pregnant with twins.

You can choose to have just 2 eggs implanted, but there is always the chance that you could loose both of them.

Ultimately it is a decision that you need to sit down and talk about with your DH and decide if you two want twins or just one baby for now. :hugs I hope everything works out for you

Hey hon. You can do one embryo with in vitro, but most docs prefer to do two. I would think they would want to do clomid, or IUI's first before invitro.
Dh and I have been trying for a while now, I also have endo, there are a lot of ways they can treat it instead of going straight to IVF.

I forgot to say I think Liz told me it was a 50% chance of her getting pregnant?

He wants to have a baby right now. Says he cannot wait to be a mommy and daddy, and that he has been waiting to be a real family. We were also told by the ob/gyn that by getting pregnant it would help with the endo. and take some pain away. He said he doesn't want me to be in pain and he doesn't care what happens.

I would prefer to have just one baby at a time..but if push comes to shove and we end up with twins, then so be it. I was just wondering if anybody had more info. So thank you for sharing what you know!!

My best friend did this numerous times. She has had 2 implanted a total of 2 - lost them both times.
The last time she was implanted (in March) she requested that only 1 be done. It stuck and she is now preggo with 1 baby! :)

What is clomid and IUI's?? I haven't heard of many other options with getting pregnant with endo. Can you share what you've heard. The more info and more options the better!!

IUI is intrauterine inseminations, where they deposit the sperm directly in the uterus after washing them to help get them to the eggs. It's usually done in combination with other fertility drugs to increase egg counts. You should seek the opinion of an RE after a year of TTC. Start charting your cycles, etc. to make sure you are covering the right times.

If you do have multiple birth sweetie, look at it as a blessing cause there are some ladies who can't have any.
My SIL was ttc for 8 months before she concieved and there is nothing medically wrong with her. Try not too stress so much about not concieving.

Just something to think about - the mill WILL pay for IUI and fertility treatments but frmo what my boss said (her hubby is a marine) they will NOT pay for IVF.

Don't jump ahead of yourselves, really. Just focus on the now and enjoy TTC, and if you aren't pregnant after a year, go back and talk to your doctor and see what your options are. it takes on average 12 months for couples to get pregnant, don't stress it, really. 5 months is really not too long so far.

First I wanted to point out if your friend did IVF and got identical boys then she had 1 egg that split into two. That didn't mean 2 eggs implanted. So really if you did IVF and only transfered 1 egg it would result in idential twins if the egg splits. I am not sure what the norm is for transfering eggs though just wanted to offer that tidbit on the twins.

I hope you get preg. without needing the intervention. I got married at 20. started ttc when I was 21 and it took us 12 cycles. I had never been on birth control ever.. so sometimes it just takes people a while to get preg. Now I am on #4 and the last 2 were just 1 time.. DD #1 took 8 months.

I would definately recommend looking into starting with Clomid and the IUI's before deciding on IVF. With the military when I had my IUI's we had to pay $110 out of pocket each time which is not bad.

We were setting up for IVF when I finally got my bfp, but out of pocket cost for us would have been roughly $7,000 and that was working with Walter Reed in DC and the ART Institute. Not going through them and having it done privately can cost anywhere from $15,000 to around $30,000 and you still only have around a 50% chance of it actually working.

Do some more research and try to relax a little, I know its hard but if you have only been ttc for 5 mos you could potentally have a long hard road ahead. Good Luck!

DH and I will be doing IVF next year. If you are near a military hosp that will do it, it is possible to get it down with only having to pay $3000-$5000 (here in SD). That is because a civilian lab has to be used for the fertilization.

We plan on having them implant 2, and that will be it. I know my body cant handle more than that.

5 months isnt long AT ALL compared even to a lot of the girls on this board who have been charting, praying, and taking medications for years now.

Please, don't cross bridges before you come to them, there are lots of other options! :goodvibes

I agree with Jennifer, she is one of the ttc experts! :)
There are several more steps to try before in vitro. I've never heard of a doc jumping right to that, especially since tricare doesn't cover it (last I checked). Good luck!!
