:hi Aloha everyone. I will be arriving in Great Lakes in July. :cp I have never been there so I am kind of scared. :ohno I have spent most of my military life in Hawaii, North Carolina, and Kansas. Actually that's most of my life take away 5 years or so. I have been married to my sailor for 4 years now. I get lonely sometimes and hoping to find good friends out there.:loser In other words will you be my friend? :hugs lol. On other sites I have not been able to find many military spouses in Great Lakes so I hope that this one will be different. Mahalo, Leilani:shrug

I am so sorry you have to come out to the cold. But there are a lot of friendly people here and housing is open at the moment as well. They say if you leave Great Lakes the same rank it is a good tour, If you advanced in rank it was a great tour and any thing else it was bad. It is a hard command that makes and breaks a lot of careers. I hope you enjoy the change of scenery for a little while.

I am actually planning on living in the Forest City Housing. They are the ones that manage our housing out here and I love them. I have done a lot of work with them so they have been helping us out with finding a great house in there area. Do any of you recommend any of the communities? I am so excited about the cold. I really hate having heat all the time. I am southern at heart, by living in NC, So I love my hot summers and my cold winters. My husband will be trainning boots to shoot. Also we will be really close to family and the colleges are better there so I am looking at going back to school.
Does anyone out there play bunco? Is anyone interested in playing bunco? Do any of you scrapbook? I am very egar to know everything. Thank you all so much in responding to me. Like I said earlier I am so scared to be leaving Hawaii. You find commfort in what you know, they say.

Oh boy..there is a big difference between Forest City in HI and Forest City in Great Lakes. Not many people are happy with them here because of the management team. Good luck though, you may be the exception

I know I have said it once (and right now I am not thrilled) but alot of people are not happy during the construction phase. I know this company does a great job building nice homes for the military but this is not the first time that people have been very unhappy during the building process. You asked which community would be better and my opinion is ask to be placed in Halsey or Nimitz so that you might get to move to a new one when they start construction over there. Best wishes with housing my verdict on my opinion with them is pending until June 7th.

Actually I am looking to get a job with them in Great Lakes. I am very dissapointed to hear that there is such a problem with the management team. The one here in Hawaii is outstanding. I searved as the president for my communitee (like a liason) for two years. Things were rough in the begining but have started looking up.
Is there anything else that you can tell me to expect? What is there to do out there?

Hi there

I am here in GL too. We live over in Forrestal Village currently.
There is alot of stuff to do if your willing to drive a bit. We have 2 malls fairly close by. We have 6 flags, TONS to do in downtown chicago, Wisconsin isn;t far etc. In Great Lakes itself there isn't a whole lot to do but walk and go to starbucks :giggle

As far as Forest City goes...I realize they are new here...I realize they are just starting out. BUT. Yeah there have been problems with their lack of caring and their lack of enforcing THEIR own rules. But...who knows. Maybe things will change as they get better aquainted in here. I do know they pissed their construction people off or something because they been striking out here all week long..

G'luck on the move!

You'll enjoy it there. I think you'll find they have more to do within an hours distance than anywhere else you've probably been. The summers are hot and the winters are cold. There are so many museums down in Chicago, among other things. I really miss all the malls in the area as well.
Enjoy it!

Sorry but I had to :lmao at your "summer is hot" comment. I didn't think summers here were that bad at all. Love the summers here but then again we live right on Lake Michigan and get that lake breeze

This is the hottest it has been in the whole 3 summers we have had here so far. And I am enjoying every day that is not muggy.:D I have heard the Wisonsin Dells are very nice. We have not been because we have 3 kids under the age of 5 none of them swim on their own yet. :lol Winter is very cold if you ask me and people really do drive crazy out here. There are a lot of museums to go to though in downtown. I have only been to the Children's museum which is free to Military. I hope you enjoy it out here.

I have lived in GL housing for 4 years. It's not the best but I am happy with my house. Their is alot to do and you are coming during a good month. The only thing I am not happy about is the school district. As some may know I am having a big battle. I got a lawyer and everything. I dont know if yoou have kids in grade school but if you do please becareful where you decide to put them in school. Other that that it's been a good 4 years. We have just got orders to Va. I would like to leave in Aug so the kids can start school in Va but I dont see that happening. It looks like Christmas break when DH gets home from Bahrain. Fell free to get in tough with me before your move. Maybe I can help you out from my end. Nice to meet ya and Welcome.

:thumbsup You ladies are so awsome. I am now even more excited than I was before. I have a friend who might be coming down to help me set up house so I can get back to work quicker. I hope that all works out. :ohno I don't have any kids I do have a small dog and two cats. I am so excited that there are a lot of museums out there. My big thing since we have been in Hawaii is taking in as much of the culture as I can. Just so you all know a little about me I am a military brat myself, I was born in Hawaii and both my dad and step dad were able to get most of there billetts here. So I have spent a great deal of my life here. Unfortunately I did appriciate the beautiy of the islands till I was an adult. Being from a mulitcutrual family I really enjoy history, art, music, culture, and world religions. So it sounds like I am going to the right place to check some of that out at. I want to go back to school I should have a year or two left depending. How are the colleges out there? Do any of you play Bunco? :thinking

I think College of Lake County is pretty decent. I know nothing about Barat or Lake Forest. Columbia isn't that bad either. Weather here, in my opinion, hasn't been that hot but each person is different. It has been in the 70's alot. Last year it didn't warm up until late June and then was in the 90's in July. Lovely weather :) Coming from where you are at now, the weather won't be a problem for you until winter. Sorry, but I have noooo clue what Bunco is.

:thumbsup The Dells are awesome. We go two and theww times a year in winter, Its much cheaper than summer. We are considering going in July when Jesse is home from Bahrain for a visit. I guess we will humble ourselves to oay over $200.00 a night, The best resort is The Wilderness. All GL girls have to go atleats once.

:thumbsup The College of Lake Countyis a good campus. I went for two years and got a's but I had to stop due to major medical issues(I have been a major diabetic) Once we wake this move I plan on startig up again. I want some type of degree.:nutts
